Chapter Eight
Jenny stood to attention before the Governor. Two screws stood behind Jenny, two behind the Governor, and two more were in the background. Officer O’Hara stood by the side of the Governor’s desk.
“You deny that you assaulted Officer Peters?” the Governor asked for the second time.
“Yes Governor.” Jenny had already denied being involved in s****l acts with Barbara, and they’d stopped questioning her about that. They regarded tripping Peters as more important.
“What if I tell you that Officer Peters has stated categorically that you assaulted her?”
“She’s... mistaken Governor. She tripped.”
“You were seen tripping her.”
“I was not!” Jenny spoke with sudden sharpness. She was sure Peters hadn’t seen her. She had nothing to lose by showing force of feeling over this point
