One afternoon, while studying in the library, I stumbled upon an old yearbook. William's face stared back, his smile captivating. But it was the caption that caught my attention: "William, son of James and Emily." James, a name I'd heard before. I recalled a whispered conversation between Kalvin and Jovia, their voices hushed.
"James' family has a dark past," Kalvin said. "William's got demons." Jovia nodded. "Tomi knows something." My curiosity piqued. What did Tomi know? What secrets did William's family hide? I felt a shiver run down my spine.
That evening, I approached Tomi. "Hey, can we talk?" I asked.
"About William?" Tomi guessed.
I nodded.
Tomi's expression turned serious. "James' family has secrets, Shine. Dark secrets. William's been hurt." Tomi's voice dropped to a whisper. "But that doesn't excuse his behavior." Tomi's eyes locked onto mine. "You deserve better than someone who's going to hurt you."
