Chapter one
I watched as Xander walked into the room, he had the most beautiful girl wrapped around his arm and he didn’t even notice I was staring at him, how could I not, I haven’t seen him since that night.
I watched as everyone’s attention turned to him, I had no idea he will be any part of this party, Xander headed to the center and the lady found herself sitting by the chair, he held on to the mic and that’s when his eyes met mine.
It felt like time has frozen when my breath hitches, his eyes were blue radiant, I could still remember the way he looked at me when I was wrapped against his arm, the way his lips gently touched mine and the way he whispered my name against my ear.
I felt a wave of goosebumps washed over me, suddenly the noise, the audience were not there and it was only the two of us trapped in this moment, I thought I was never going to see him again, I thought he had left the country and never to come back ever again.
I looked away from him when I realized what was happening, and my attention turns to the bar.
Fuck I need to get a hold of myself.
“Ladies and gentlemen, today marks the anniversary of my company and I will like to announce my main branch will be moving to the city, cheers to new beginning.” He said, his voice was low and husky, it was almost as if he was talking to me.
Welcoming me back.
When I turned back, he was no where to be found, I shook off the thoughts that I had and I found myself sitting on my seat, with my name carefully written on it.
This was never part of the plan, we promised we will never see each other again and now he is moving here, into the city.
“Cami.” I heard Lisa say, I turned to look at her as her voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
Lisa, my sister and best friend sat beside me.
“Was that him Cami.” She asked, when her eyes met mine she knew the answer.
“It’s being six months, fuck.” I whispered against my breath, “I didn’t think I will ever see him again.”
“What are you going to do, Patrick is here.” She said and I nodded, I knew that.
I glanced around when I saw I saw Patrick standing beside Xander, they were sharing a drink, this can’t be good, when Lisa turned around she then and a curse escaped her lips.
“You need to fix this.” She said and I nodded, I gulped down the glass of wine before I headed toward him.
All I have to do is ignore his eyes, it was nothing, he means nothing to me and I have to be there.
I watched as Patrick’s eyes met mine and he had a smile on his face, he pulled out his hand and I moved closer to him before taking it, I could feel Xander’s gaze on me, I could still feel his breath as if he was close to me and the cologne I loved so much.
“Xander I want you to meet my wife, Cami.” Patrick announced with a smile on his face, my eyes peered up and it met Xander.
“Nice to meet you Xander.”
“Is this the wife you have been talking about.” Xander asked, his voice masked with an emotion I could not tell, I didn’t know what to say.
Have they been talking, he can’t be my husband’s friend, I know all Patrick’s friends.
“Yes, my trophy, you know when I told Xander about you a year ago, he wanted to badly meet my wife, he insisted in seeing pictures and I never shows you him any, I wanted to surprise him, after all you are more beautiful physically.” Patrick said before he leaned in and he placed a kiss on my cheek.
I felt like the ground could open and swallow me, I love Patrick and I love the way he always loved to flaunt me in the presence of his friends, he was proud of my beauty, and he wanted anyone to see his wife.
I could no longer look at Xander, I looked away, now he knows, I was married when I met him.
“Are you working with Xander.” I finally said.
“Yes, we have been working for a year, I told you about it, my wife never pays attention.” Patrick chuckled and my eyes met Xander.
“Well it’s nice meeting you, I have heard a lot about your cooking, I would love to taste it.” Xander said, his tone stressing on the word taste and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
Even without coming close to me, he had a affect on me and he knew that.
“Uhm— how about you come tomorrow night, we can talk about business and Cami will love to cook.” Patrick said cutting me off.
He never stops, does he.
I knew I could not say no, I just gave them a nod, f**k I need to find a way to leave, I was about to speak when Patrick cracked another joke and Xander barley laughed, his eyes were on mine unknown to my lovely husband.
“Nice to meet you Cami.” Xander finally said, he pulled his hand out and I watched as Patrick looked at me, nudging me to shake his hand and when my hand wrapped around his, I felt a jolt of electricity flowing through my body, I felt a familiar warmth fill my body.
His hands were soft, I could almost recall everything that happened between us.
“I can’t wait to see you tomorrow Camille.” Xander said, the way he said my full name, it was enough to realize this was a warning and I can’t avoid him even if I wanted to.
