Chapter 5

Boaz is calmly seated in his living room, and he hears the doorbell.

"I knew I'd get visitors soon" He whispered.

Boaz stood up slowly, he walked towards the door checking who just rang the bell.

"This is unexpected" He said opening the door.

Max fixed his eyes on Boaz.

"Come in" Boaz requested.

Max entered, ordered Philip to stay outside, and Boaz closed the door behind him.

"Care for a drink?" Boaz asked.

"No, thank you" Max rejected, and Boaz shrugged his shoulders walking to his favourite seat. "What do you want then?" Boaz asked as he sat down. Max looked at him.

"Why?" Max asked.

"Why what?" Boaz answered.

"You should have followed the normal procedure" Max noted.

"You are human. Why should you interfere with my job?" Boaz asked coldly.

"Because I have the power to end everything here" Max said.

"And don't you think we have the power to destroy yours?" Boaz countered.

Max calmed himself by bowing down his head, took a deep breath, and gazed upon Boaz as he stood up.

"My face is going to be in your worst nightmare. Surpassing your threshold of your living powers, and I'll dry your well till you know that if power was a person, I'm power." Max threatened with a bit of anger showing on his face.

Boaz left Max's presence without saying a word, and he exited his living room. He halted his steps, and turned around.

"If power was a person, it will be the boy that taunts you every night. His presence is your worst nightmare Max. He is a disease you can't heal." Boaz explained as he left his presence. "When you are going, please close the door behind you" Boaz said.

Max eyes became slightly red, as he saw the last of Boaz's body leaving the living room, he smiled.

"Blood would be used to water your trees Boaz" He whispered.

"Mom! I should be the next Alpha without all this!" Griffin paced back, and forth as his mother, Sasha Sabatoré watched her son panicking.

"Will you calm down?" Sasha asked.

Griffin stopped walking as he heard his mother talk...

"Act like a man for once"

"Mom, how can I calm down, aren't you there when he wrote the announcement? It is not even fight till you surrender, it is a fight to death. Who does that?"

"You're strong Griffin, you should not panic." Sasha stood up, and stood in front of Griffin. "You're the king, and the strongest. Why are you like this? Please don't fail me."

Sasha held onto his shoulders, and patted them with her hands.

"You will be alright, son" Sasha assured.

Ava and Davina stared at each other in silence until Ava spoke up.

"You aren't participating in that competition"

"Why Mom?"

"Because, you haven't even shifted. How do you think you would be capable of surviving?"

"I'll always find a way to survive"

"Forget it Davina, you are not participating"

"I will Mom!"

"You are shouting back at me?"

"No, Mom, I'm not. I'm just tired of being treated as a slave everytime. When I become the Alpha, everything would change" Davina explained.

Ava kept mute thinking about what Davina said, and after some few seconds she disagreed with her.

"No, Davina, you won't reach the finals"

"Don't doubt me Mom"

"I'm not. I don't just want you dead"

"I won't Mom"

Ava sighed staring at Ava who was sitting on the sofa adjacent her.

"On one condition" Ava said.

"What condition?"

"If you find the chain, you can participate"

"Yes!" Davina shouted as she jumped off her seat. "Don't reverse anything" Davina said staring at Ava.

"I won't" Ava said smiling, and Davina exited the entrance.

Evans quietly walked up to Ava...

"Are you sure about that?" Evans asked.

Ava stared at Evans, and returned her gaze to Davina who was running into the streets. "I'm not sure she will find it" Ava said.

"What if she does?" Evans asked.

"Then I will let her, at least, she would have gotten the chain back. We'd be planning on how she won't be injured or dead during the competition." Ava replied.

Ashley, Ethan, Alisander, and Ivy were all in the sitting room discussing, then Ashley brought up a conversation.

"Mummy, how was the meeting?"

"It was okay"

"You aren't telling me the full story today?"

Ethan and Alisander listened to their conversation...

"I know the meeting was because of who would be the next alpha" Ashley suspected.

"God damn your intuition" Ivy whispered.

Ashley was excited that she got that right...

"Tell me about it Mom" Ashley requested as she sat tight, and Ivy did the same.

"Yes, we talked about who would be the next Alpha, but it is not with the normal procedure" Ivy explained.

"Then, how will they choose the next Alpha?" Ashley asked, and this time, Alisander and Ethan were already in the conversation.

"It would be determined with a competition" Ivy replied.

"Yay! That means I can join! Yes!" Ashley exclaimed.

"But..." Ivy stole Ashley's happiness, and gave Ethan and Alisander a piece of suspense. Ethan didn't know when he asked.

"But what?"

Ivy looked at Ethan, then at Ashley. "It is a fight to death"

Ashley dropped her jaws.

"Why that?" Ethan asked.

"I don't know" Ivy replied.

"You ought to know" Ashley said.

"But, I don't" Ivy replied and they all look disappointed.

They all kept silent...

"Are you still interested?" Ivy broke the silence turning to Ashley.

"I'm not" Ashley responded, stood up, and left for her room.

Ethan stood up...

"Aunty Ivy, I'm strolling out"

"To where exactly?"

"I don't know yet, maybe to the park"

"It is late"

"Nowhere is too late for me Aunt. I always walk in the middle of the night back in the states, and Goligophy"

"This is not the states, and this is not Goligophy, this is Valdec City, a place birthed in blood, you won't survive, even the alphas couldn't survive" Ivy explained.

"I'm not an Alpha, I'm a nobody" Ethan countered.

Ivy sighed, and Alisander just watch both of them...

"You haven't been saying anything this evening, Al. Are you alright?" Ethan asked, and Alisander nodded.

"If you will be going out, let Alisander follow you" Ivy suggested.

"No, Aunt, I'll be fine alone" Ethan declined.

Alisander watched Ethan as he went outside.

"Won't you say anything?" Ivy asked.

Alisander turned around, and looked at Ivy...

"He always needs time alone, and when he says it, I can't just find myself to say anything. That was a command I can't fight" Alisander explained.

Ivy sighed, and went inside. Alisander took the remote to the TV, and turned it on.

"Let's find something interesting to watch"

Davina saw little kids playing. The moon was out pretty early today, and the clouds are clear, making the moon shine brighter.

"Only if I had shifted, I won't be here. I hope I find my chain, so that I can make it to the competition" She whispered.

"O God, I will submit myself to anyone that helps me find my chain, I know you won't come down from up there, but I will give my life to that person. I need to be in this competition, and prove everyone wrong. I'm strong enough to handle any wolf" She was wild in thoughts.

Ethan walked through the lonely, dark streets, and he remembered Madam Cynthia, and he smiled. He strolled aimlessly into the forest, and he saw a stream, lighted up by the moonlight, the stream stood still. He went near the stream, and sat down there staring at the still stream.

"I wish my life was as peaceful as this" He thought.

Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming towards him. He looked back, and saw no one, he turned around looking at the stream, he doesn't seem frightened. He had footsteps again, but this time, he didn't look back, the footsteps came closer and closer, but Ethan didn't flinch.

"Who are you?"

"I should be asking that from you" Ethan replied.

"You are invading my privacy"

Ethan immediately recognised the voice, and looked back - surely, it was whom he had guessed.

"What are you doing here!? Perhaps, did you follow me here?" Ethan stood up.

"I should be asking you... You are invading my privacy. This is where I come to at least thrice in a week, and this is the fourth year running, and I have never came across you. So, I should be asking you. What are you doing here?" Davina asked slightly smiling, but still maintaining her mean face.

"I don't need to explain that to you" Ethan stood still crossing his arms.

Ethan remembered the chain that he saw on the floor.

"Are you Davina - Davina. P." Ethan asked.

"Who told you my name?" Davina curiously asked.

"What's the P for though?" Ethan asked still.

"Are we really doing th--" Davina stopped. "Are you with my chain?"

"What chain?" Ethan responded looking a bit serious.

"I lost my chain, and I can't find it, is it with you?"

Ethan dipped his hands into his pocket, and brought out the chain.

"You mean this?" Ethan said dangling the chain in his hands. Davina placed her hands in her mouth, ran over to Ethan, and gave him a hug.

"Thank you!" Davina shouted, hugging Ethan tightly.

Ethan looked surprised. "I think you are invading my own privacy right now" Ethan managed to spill those words. He could feel her heartbeat, and the excitement running through her veins.

Davina disconnected herself from him collecting the chain in his hands. Ethan watched her closely as she stare at her chain in disbelief.

"I guess this chain is really important to you" Ethan said.

"Yes, it is." Davina answered, and Ethan nodded.

"Now, I can participate in the competition" Davina thought smiling, and still fixing her eyes on the chain. Ethan stared at her intently.

"I need to go home now" Davina said.

"Won't that be dangerous, let me see you off" Ethan proposed.

"No, thank you, you should be worried about yourself, O ye human" Davina said leaving Ethan's presence. As she left Ethan smiled carelessly.

Davina turned around, and Ethan stopped smiling.

"What's your name?" Davina asked Ethan.

"My name is Ethan" Ethan responded.

"Okay, Ethan, bye"

"Bye"

"So, I owe someone my life. I should have calmed down before saying all that" She thought looking back to Ethan, Ethan noticed, and he smiled.

"You can't say no! I'm really seeing you off!" Ethan ran towards Davina.
