8 Ryan stood outside the apartment door and took a breath. He hadn’t seen his mother since the day she caught him and Henry going through their dad’s old things. Usually he heard from his mom daily, but it had been four days. It was past time for a visit. He raised his hand and knocked on the door, waiting patiently. Andie told him his mom was inside, so it was a matter of waiting for her to answer his knock and hopefully agree to have lunch with him. “Well, this is a surprise,” Nonna said, opening the door instead of Jo. “What do I owe this honor to?” Ryan floundered. He didn’t want to upset the other woman who mattered more to him than anything, but he had fences to mend with his mom, not his grandmother. “I was hoping to take Mom to lunch. Is she here?” Nonna nodded and moved back
