Chapter6 Get away from her

1114 Words
‘While we are at it, why not add the old pig Henry. After all, less than half hour had passed since he threatened me!’ She was brought out her thoughts by the tap on her window, she turned to see Joseph holding a bundle in his hands. “I hope you don’t mind, I took the liberty of grabbing these for you,” he said showing him the clothes he had just purchased for her. “How did you know to come to my rescue?” she asked suspicion written all over her face. Joseph was shocked by the expression on her face, his heart broke at the thought of Rose thinking he would do anything so beastly to her. He composed himself to hide his thoughts and emotions knowing that she did not know him that well, if at all and was entitled to her suspicions. “I happened to see you ride off with one of the most notorious gangs in the city and became suspicious so I followed you.” Rose was not convinced with his explanation, “Oh, so you were just hanging around at the Java cafe?” “How do I know this is not one of your plans as well? Remember last night?” “How dare you,” she said trying to alight from the car but Joseph held the door locked. “I suggest it would be better if you got dressed first if you want to get down from the car,” he said shoving the bundle of clothes through the car window and turned around to give her the privacy she needed to get decent. She was raving mad, ‘how dare he accuse me of using such lowly tactics to get his attention? Who does he think he is? I’ll show him, I don’t need him.’ In no time she was dressed in the fitting blue jeans he had bought her and the white T-shirt, both fitting her perfectly as if he had been buying her wardrobe countless times. Rose was amazed that he knew her dress size but another part of her that was logical told her he most probably had done this to countless women. The thought of him buying something for another woman made her choke on her saliva, she couldn’t stand the thought. It was at that moment she realized how deeply he was affecting her and did not want to be anywhere near him. She scooted to the driver’s side of the door, opened it and sprinted towards the convenience store. Joseph was surprised, he was just about to follow her but he held back when she went into the ladies’ room that was beside the store. He waited for some time but there was no sign of Rose. He went to check if she was still there, concerned but before he even got close, his enhanced hearing picked up wracking sobs coming from the ladies’. His steps quickened, Leo surfacing to bicker with him because he had hurt Rose. Joseph was in no mood to argue with his beast, he wanted to scoop Rose into his arms and comfort her but when he got to the door, he hesitated. ‘Would she want me near her?’ ‘You hurt her, get in there and comfort her,’ Leo replied authoritatively. After a few seconds of hesitation, Joseph could not stomach the pain he felt from listening to her in distress. Her sobs were cutting through his heart like a sharp knife but what hurt him most was the fact that he was the one that hurt her. ‘Blockhead, you get in there and comfort our female or I will!’ ‘What if she doesn’t want to see us? She is not our kind and we cannot reveal ourselves to her, so back off and let me do this,” Joseph said with a finality that caused Leo to put his tail between his legs and back off. “Are you okay in there? Silence! “Rose, can I come in?” Silence! Joseph panicked, what if she had hurt herself in there? With a supernatural strength, he yanked the door off from its hinges in one move, throwing it aside. His heart broke all over again when he saw Rose huddled on the floor of the lavatory, looking so vulnerable. He scooped her up into his arms and walked out of the lavatory with her. Rose pressed herself to his chest and bawled her eyes out, his arms felt safe. Even though the fear of losing that warmth was real, she grabbed onto his shirt as if grabbing his protective aura to herself; wanting to keep it longer. Sooner, her sobs subsided to soft whimpers and in no time, she had fallen asleep in his arms. Joseph held onto her tightly, a warm feeling coursing through his body to erupt in a warm feeling that engulfed him like a blanket. He looked at her now calm face that was still trying to press itself against his chest and smiled. He opened the car door with one hand while still holding her like a baby and lay her on the passenger seat. Even in her slumber, she was like a small, clingy child that did not want to go. He lay his face against hers, their breaths mingling, intertwining their souls into one, making it feel so right. Joseph couldn’t hold himself back, he kissed her forehead making her sigh happily in her sleep. It was at that moment that he heard Leo say, ‘Mine!’ He reeled back with the force of realization, he had been given a second chance mate; a human. He did not realize he was shaking all over until he heard a voice behind him calling out to him. “Sir, are you okay?” He turned back to see the store owner looking at him, concern written all over his face. Rose’s distress had attracted the storekeeper’s attention and he was no better; from within Leo was fighting for control wanting to be with his mate and he was struggling to come to grips with this new reality that had hit him like a ton of bricks all at once. Leo was already on the surface, a fact that was proven by the storekeeper’s reaction. “MONSTER,” he shouted the moment he saw Joseph’s glowing eyes and half-human-half beast features. “Get away from her,” he said as he retreated back into the store. Joseph acted on instinct, he rushed forth to grab the storekeeper but just as he made contact, he heard Rose’s voice. “Joseph?”
