Chapter Five: Drunk In The Big Boss's Arms

2304 Words
After telling Lucy the events of my day, she decided it would be a good idea to go out to a bar and get a few drinks. I was a little sceptical about going out to a bar and drinking when I had work the next day. It wasn’t even the end of the week yet, it was literally Monday, the start of the week. Lucy had hired a nanny that she knew and trusted that lived in the building as well. She was coming over to stay with Mia and would be available to stay with Mia whenever I had to be out and about for work or otherwise. Lucy was forcing me to change into a very short and tight dress that I was sure to be uncomfortable in. The heels were also looking uncomfortably high and I was sure to be complaining all night long. We didn’t plan to stay out long since I have work tomorrow for the first time, and I also did not plan on having Lucy getting me drunk. The Uber arrive downstairs and I gave Mia a little kiss and told her I’d be back before she even knew it. The nanny, whose name I learned was Christina but Crissy for short, told me that she would take perfect care of Mia and I didn’t need to worry. I was a little nervous leaving Mia since I’ve never left her with anybody else other than Lucy. Crissy was only 21 and in her second year of college. She lived here in the building with her rich boyfriend whom she was having relationship troubles with and that was why she was more than happy to stay with Mia whenever I wanted just to get away from the tension in her apartment. She had shoulder length blonde hair with pink highlights in the front, shaping her heart shaped face. She had chocolate pools for eyes and she did them sultrily with a little mascara to make her eyelashes pop, her small pink lips coated in lip gloss. She had a satchel with books overflowing out of it, but she assured me she would still pay attention to Mia while catching up on some school work. She told us to enjoy our night out and she would enjoy her night in with Mia. Mia assured me as well that she and Crissy would be good girls until I got back. She grabbed her colouring book and joined Crissy on the couch and they both got to work. Lucy and I got downstairs into the cab and off we went to the bar a couple blocks away from the apartment. It wasn’t exactly a bar but a night lounge that had VIP seating areas and you could actually hear each other and have a conversation over the music that would be playing. Going out and crowds weren’t really my thing so I was a little nervous of just how packed this place was going to be. I was still a wallflower, never changed since high school. We entered into the lounge and it was surprising that it wasn’t filled with people, actually it wasn’t surprising seeing as it was the start of the week and I was still a little salty that Lucy dragged me out here to drink the night away. We made our way to the bar where Lucy ordered us some colourful concoction in cups. I wasn’t so sure of the drinks she wanted us to consume, I didn’t even know what it was called. “Lucy, are you sure this is safe for consumption?” I asked sceptically. “Of course, don’t be a party pooper.” Lucy knocked two glasses back in rapid succession. I shook my head at Lucy’s antics and took a look around the place. I noticed a few heads turning to stare at me and Lucy and I started to get self-conscious. I wasn’t comfortable with the attention that I was getting. “Um, Lucy. Why is everyone staring at us?” I asked shakily. “Why wouldn’t they stare is the question my femme fatale. You look smoking hot in your little number.” She answered with a giggle. I tried to sink a little further into the seat but it was no use, eyes were still stuck to me and Lucy. I called over the bartender and ordered a glass of wine. I wanted no part in what Lucy was having, it looked like a knockout headache waiting to happen. There was a man sitting next to Lucy and she was giggling the night away with him. I was just enjoying my glass of wine and swaying slightly to the music playing. Upstairs in the VIP lounge area. The giggles of lucy could be heard in the private booth upstairs and the men sitting there had a perfect view of the ladies sitting at the bar. “Robert had me a hire a woman with absolutely no fashion sense today. You know me, anyone that’s on my team needs to be dressed according to my liking. She looked like a grandma in her late 60’s.” Mason complained to Vincent, another one of his friends who was close to Robert. The three of them were as thick as thieves, Mason was really good at what he did and he made Robert a ton f money so he was okay in Robert’s books. Vincent and Robert have been friends since diaper days and that wasn’t going to change anytime soon. Vincent had dark shaggy hair that was shoulder length and he loved to catch it in a little man bun. His chiselled features got him a lot of attention from the female population but he was a one woman kind of man and he was more than happy with his current girlfriend. Mason didn’t dare to complain about the woman who Robert had him hire today so Robert could hear him. He would never hear the end of it, the scathing looks he received from Robert at the office was more than enough for the day. Vincent took a look at the man that was sat in a corner booth on his own sipping slowly on his glass of scotch. His mouth hitched up in a smile at the fact that Robert heard every word that came out Mason’s mouth but he chose not to say anything. If Robert had to take over the hiring process from Mason, it meant that the person was a good candidate for whatever position they applied for and Mason was just letting the diva side of him make the decisions for him. The tinkling laughter of the woman downstairs had all the men in the private booth heads turning in that direction. Other patrons were looking in the direction of the two women sitting at the bar and enjoying their glasses of wine. Mason looked hard at the woman in the tight red dress and thought to himself that the facial features of the woman looked familiar, but it was quite dark in that area of the lounge, he couldn’t quite make out the woman’s face so well. “Well hello beautiful ladies.” Mason smiled to himself. “Stunning aren’t they?” Vincent joined in. Robert’s eyes were glued to the one sitting on the stool in the tight red dress, his interest was piqued. She looked familiar as well but he couldn’t place where he had seen that face. She looked vaguely like the woman he had hired today on Mason’s behalf. Even then he had taken a good look at her because she looked like someone he knew but couldn’t place where he knew her from. He remembered attending one of the Smith’s big bash, and took a walk through their garden that night. He had seen a stunning young woman sat there in the dark, and he decided to talk to her. He had a little too much to drink that night, work was hectic, and he could tell that she also had a little too much in her system. But what happened after they had both consented to despite being inebriated. He left her the morning after it happened, he didn’t need clingy, awkward morning after talks with the girl, he got what he wanted and that was it. But he couldn’t stop thinking about her and he wasn’t one to get holed up on a girl for so long. Robert was so attuned to the woman sitting on the stool he didn’t even realize when Mason went down to join the woman and her friend, and he didn’t feel Vincent move closer to him with his glass of whiskey in hand. “Be honest with me, are you really going to marry Ada?” Vincent asked Robert. “Why?” Robert asked his friend. Vincent thought of his words carefully before replying. Even though they have been friends for a really long time now, Vincent still had to be careful about what was said to Robert, especially what they teased him about as well. He was very sensitive to things like that. Robert had always been kind of a weird kid growing up. He doesn’t do well in social situations so if he takes a liking to you, he considers you friend or even a part of his family. It was said that he had mild autism, so he was a little more on the quiet introverted side of life despite having everything a person could ever want. And even though Robert was one of the most sought after bachelors, he was not egotistical and over the top with his wealth and status. “She just doesn’t seem like your type is all.” Vincent finally answered. “She’s just a woman Vincent. And we aren’t getting married for real, it’s just business.” Robert sipped his scotch. “Does she know that?” Vincent quipped. Robert gave his friend the famous side eye and that queued Vincent that the conversation was over. Back downstairs with Jessica and Lucy I noticed a man sidling up on the barstool next to Lucy but she was too busy chugging an unhealthy amount of alcohol. We had agreed that we would not be getting drunk tonight, I had to report for my first day of work tomorrow and I did not want to turn up to work barely recovered from a hangover. She didn’t seem to get the memo because she was already drunk. I had to admit I was a little tipsy as well bordering on drunk but I wasn’t there yet. “Hi there, is this seat taken?” the man address the inebriated Lucy. “Knock yourself out bud.” Lucy answered with a giggle. The man was already seated before Lucy gave him the go ahead. I guess he thought he was being polite or something. Being the slightly more normal one of the two of us, I had to watch this man to make sure he wasn’t trying anything. His face looked a little familiar but my foggy brain couldn’t place his face right away. It was after he looked over at me, he let out a loud gasp like the diva he was and shouted, “Ms Smith is that you?” It startled me as I wasn’t expecting him to blurt my name out like that. “M-Mr Angelo. Uh, fancy running into y-you here.” I stammered. I gave Lucy ‘the look’ to let her know that the man she was currently ogling was my new boss. She gave me the ‘oh s**t’ look and then began giggling like the i***t she was when she consumed too much alcohol. I didn’t know what to do in this situation, I didn’t exactly want the man to think I was a drunkard or anything. He already wasn’t fond of me working alongside him, I was sure he was going to use this against me if given the chance. I hopped down from my stool and began walking backwards while chuckling nervously. “Uh my friend and I have to use the restroom real quick. Is that okay with you?” I didn’t even wait for his response before pulling Lucy away from the tiny glass of alcohol she was about to consume. “Hey, I was going to drink that!” she exclaimed. Before either of us could take a step further, I bumped into a solid chest. Firm hands took a hold of my hips to steady me so I didn’t fall on my ass. The scent of natural male musk and sandalwood surrounded the space between me and the man with the firm chest. I looked up into the greenest eyes, they were like a forest, so much green you could get lost in it. My mouth fell open and those green eyes snapped down to look at my parted lips. I realized a little too late that I was in the arms of the owner of the company I was now working at, this was the same man that hired me on the spot without interviewing me. “Um, hi.” Really? That was the best my brain could come up with? “Oh Robert, hi.” Giggled Lucy. ‘Robert’ looked at Lucy and gave her a slight nod then his eyes came back down to meet mine. The tension between our bodies was crackling. It was as if my body knew him, but I still couldn’t place him, he was definitely familiar though. He eventually grabbed Mason by the back of his shirt and hauled him through the doors, another tall man following behind them chuckling to himself. “What the heck was that?” I asked myself.
