will never make me marry you besides I
received a much better offer hear tonight" said the Duke
While Sophia was alone she thought about how she was almost caught proposing marriage
to Theodore…she knew the affection her sister had for the Duke and should have
known that she'll look around for him after he left the ballroom.
Sophia hoped that Theodore didn't invite her to his house to mess with her… but from
what she had heard about him from the rumors around is that he wasn't a man to
Joke around so she decided to trust him.
Early the next morning, Sophia was awaken by the knock on her door and she
instinctively thought it was Amelia who has come to know what she and the Duke
were discussing about last night…. "I'm coming " she said as she got up from
her bed to put on her mask and head for the door…. "Good morning sister"
greeted Amelia _ "Good morning " greeted Sophia_
"Did you have fun last night?" Amelia asked
"Yes I did, the sounds of the music reached my
room" answered Sophia
"Tell me everything you discussed with the Duke last night " Amelia inquired
" we didn't have any meaningful conversations,… I stepped out to get food, the Duke saw me and called out to me because
I forgot to greet someone as important as him" Sophia lied
" And...?" Amelia interrupted
"He spoke about getting married and you were an option " replied Sophia .
Amelia was satisfied with the response because she thought the duke was actually
interested in her….. as she was about leaving, she shoved Sophia but this scene
was witnessed by their father.
" father the duke met Sophia last night and
they spoke " said Amelia
" what were you doing out of your room last
night and what did you and the duke talked about " Asked the Baron
" no food came yesterday and I was hungry so I went out to get food and the duke only told me that he had considered Amelia as
his marriage candidate " Answered
Sophia The Baron was excited
because of the news , considering his financial situation right now Amelia getting married to the Duke was their
only solution out of bankruptcy.o
Sophia lied to her father that she had run out of her art supplies and
needed to get more, since painting was the only thing that excites her.. her
father agreed on the condition that she wouldn't step out of the carriage.
Sophia agree then went back inside her room to get dressed.
At Theodore's estate
"Good morning Duke " greeted Henry the butler
as he entered Theodore's room … Henry's eyes scanned the room looking for the
Duke then he spotted him standing by the window and starring outside as though
he was looking for someone
" Good morning Henry" Theodore responded still staring out his window as he told Henry
to drop the food and leave
"Are you expecting guests, should I prepare
breakfast or drink for them?" Asked Henry
" I don't know, I gave her the invitation to my
home yesterday but I'm not so sure she'll come unless she's really a woman of
her words" said Theodore
" a woman coming to visit you in broad
daylight?" Said Henry as he was surprised because the Duke has never invited a
woman into his home in the past
" please tell be on your best behavior when she
eventually arrives, she might become the Duchess" said the Duke
" what!!!!!!!?" Henry exclaimed as he
dramatically staggered backwards
" why are you acting surprised, am I supposed
to remain single for life" Theodore asked
" I am surprised because your exact words when
the king told you to get married was I AM NOT f*****g GETTING MARRIED TO
ANYONE, I'D RATHER JUMP FROM A CLIFF AND DIE" replied Henry
"Put yourself together please Henry and the
baron's daughter come to look for me please show her in" said the Duke
" the baron's daughter? Is it Amelia? Did you
drink a lot at the party last night?"
Henry asked as Amelia wasn't who he thought would end up being the Duke's wife
" the baron has another daughter Sophia is the
older one " said the Duke
" Thank goodness" said Henry
Their conversation was
interrupted by a sudden knock on the door …. Henry went to see who had come
with a message for the Duke as he opened the door he saw a maid holding a
letter and from her appearance she was obviously scared, Henry collected to
read it
" it appears that we're in for a mind blowing
surprise, Sophia Arthur wishes to speak to you " Henry said as he stared at the
letter
" show her to my study" said the Duke who was
still surprised as he never expected her to show up that early nor did he
expect her to show up at all.
" Sophia Arthur what an interesting Lady you
are" the duke thought to himself even
though he needed to make sure her father had no hand in the contract marriage
proposal.
Sophia exited the carriage her father had given her to get art supplies
"Good morning " she greeting a group of men she
saw training
" good morning " they respond in unison
Sophia was surprised that they didn't seem
scared of her despite her mask and rumors…. She walked further a head towards
the big door.
As the door opened she saw a man in butler
clothes
" Good morning Sophia Arthur , the Duke is
waiting for you " said the butler
Sophia was impressed that he wasn't scared or
intimidated by her mask…. Henry didn't stare at her mask as it would be rude
and made a mental note to tell the other servant not to stare at her mask
either…..
"Good morning to you too" Sophia
said as he curtsied
It was rare for many of the Duke's guest to
greet him like that
"Come" said the butler to Sophia as he led her
to the Duke's study
