Immediately Sophia entered the home she was In
Awe of the Duke's home …. The walls were painted in black, giving the room a
dark and elegant atmosphere and from the different art pieces hung on the wall,
turns out the Duke was a collector of fine Arts… when she noticed that she had
Been staring for too long he cleared her throat asked the butler for his name
" you can call me Henry my Lady" replied the
butler
" nice to meet you Henry " Sophia smiled
sweetly at him
" the Duke is in here" Henry said as he knocked
on the door and opens the door for her to walk in
Henry didn't know how the Duke and Sophia met even to the point of the Duke inviting
her to his home but one thing was for certain, he was starting to like the
young lady
"Thank you " Sophia said as he walked into the
study and the doors were shut right behind her.
As soon as the doors were shut, she felt her
heart skip a bit
" I wasn't expecting you to show up and if I did, I didn't expect you to come this
early" said the Duke
" was I supposed to show up at night like a
thief?" Asked Sophia
" no , coming at night would have make my
guards think you're a threat " replied Theodore as he kept inspecting the woman
standing before him trying to figure out what Kind of a person she was.
As Sophia was about taking a seat, the Duke
spoke up again
" I would want to know how you managed to leave your mansion when it is said that
you're not allowed to leave the house or is your father aware of the proposal?
" the Duke asked
Sophia thought about the question for a moment
before answering
" I am not working with my father and if he was
aware he won't allow me visit your home" Sophia answered
" he would say I had gone mad to think you'd
ever invite me into your home " she added
" does your family hate you "the Duke asked
She saw no point In lying when they were
supposed to discuss a very serious matter
" I wouldn't say my family hates me, I just
think they're ashamed of me because I wear a mask" replied Sophia
" it is a parent's job to love their child no
matter What, it is such a shame you were born as an Arthur, you would have been
loved elsewhere" said Theodore
" if I was the daughter of a shepherd they
would have cast me aside to sell their livestocks"
"Why would something this drastic happen to a
shepherd's child, whatsoever caused the accident and ruined your face was done because you're a Baron's daughter "

" the high class individuals are very
competitive " he added as he was well aware of what the young ladies could do
to someone they were jealous of and his guts told that Sophia was in line of
someone's jealous
"Yes" Sophia answered as there was no point
trying to cover up the truth.
" moving on to the more important question ,
let's say I believe that the whole contract marriage thing was all your idea
and your father isn't involved…why would someone who has been hidden all her
life suddenly decides to marry someone who has the spotlight on him" Theodore asked
"In all honesty, me asking you to marry me was
just something that slipped out of my mouth, I actually planned on getting
married but I never thought the person would be as influential as you" Said Sophia
" I have noticed some few things about you …..
you're a private person, I can scare off people from coming to you as I am the
rumored cursed girl and also you are capable of controlling my family " added
Sophia because if a man below her status comes to ask for her hand in marriage,
her father and step mother would object and continue keeping her locked up but
if someone like the Duke decides to marry her, her father would not be able to
object.
" it is true that I'm a private man but there are a few important parties that I do
attend, the ones that are work related, it would be boring without my wife and
I don't intend to make my wife a prisoner " said the Duke
"You clearly don't get it Duke Theodore, I'm
not locked up because I want to , it was my family's decision to lock me up…. I
want to go out, explore the kingdom, attend events and dances , I might not
have the experience and confidence but I do not wish to stay in the shadows
anymore" said Sophia
Theodore brought a paper and placed it on his
desk
"What is this" Sophia asked
" a contract marriage needs its rules" Theodore responded

realized the Duke had accepted her proposal " this was much easier than I
expected " Sophia thought to herself
" Let's get started"… Theodore's voice interrupted her thoughts
" I'm sorry Duke Theodore " said Sophia
" Theodore, just call me Theodore " the Duke
corrected her
Sophia read the contract before signing and it
stated
" No love,, produce an heir, speak of the
contract to no one except Henry the butler, communicate all issues , sleep in
the same room and lastly we shall be
married forever "
And Sophia added that she needed to put on her
mask as she signed the contract.
But she was worried about giving the Duke an
heir because she was scared of the kind of trauma a child of hers would go
through
" Sophia you have no idea of the weight my last
name carries , once you become my wife, no one would dare talk about you or my
child" Theodore stated.
" I'll come to make my intension of getting Married to you know to your Family
tomorrow " said Theodore
" since your family is ashamed of you, would
you like to live here in my estate till we get married?" Theodore asked
