Chapter 6 — Blood That Refuses to Kneel The fire crackled softly beneath the dead tree. Beyond its weak light, the world felt vast and hostile—like something ancient was watching, waiting for Arjun to take one wrong step. Lyra couldn’t sleep. She sat with her knees drawn to her chest, staring at Arjun as he stood a short distance away, eyes closed, black mana flowing around him in slow, controlled waves. Training. Even at night. “You’re going to burn yourself out,” she said quietly. Arjun opened one eye. “I won’t.” “That Apostle almost—” “I know.” He lowered his hand. The darkness receded instantly, obeying him like a loyal beast. “I felt it,” Arjun continued. “My power is growing too fast. If I lose control… I won’t just hurt myself.” Lyra swallowed. “You’ll hurt the world.” “Yes.” Silence followed. Then Lyra spoke again, voice shaking just slightly. “Then let me help.” Arjun frowned. “You’re still recovering.” She stood, fists clenched. “I don’t want to just hide behind you. I don’t want to be saved again and again.” Something flared in her chest. Literally. A faint silver glow leaked through her skin. Arjun’s eyes widened. “Lyra…?” She gasped, dropping to one knee as pain surged through her veins. Symbols—ancient and unfamiliar—began to surface along her arms like glowing scars. ⟡ Emergency Scan ⟡ Subject: Lyra Valehart Status: Bloodline Awakening Seal Status: Previously Suppressed by Divine Curse True Heritage: Lunaris Bloodline “The curse…” Arjun whispered. “It wasn’t just killing you. It was suppressing you.” Lyra screamed as the glow intensified, silver light colliding violently with remnants of divine residue still clinging to her soul. Instinct took over. Arjun placed his hand over her heart. “System,” he said sharply. “Stabilize her.” ⟡ Authority Intervention ⟡ Abyssal Core responding Bloodline synchronization in progress Darkness and moonlight intertwined. The pressure bent the air, forming a dome around them. Within it, Lyra’s scream slowly faded into gasping breaths. Then—silence. She collapsed forward. Arjun caught her. Her body felt warmer now. Stronger. Her heartbeat was steady—powerful. Slowly, her eyes opened. They were no longer purely violet. Silver rings shimmered within them. “I can… feel everything,” she whispered. “The night. The mana. Even you.” Arjun stiffened slightly. “That connection,” he said. “It goes both ways.” Lyra blushed faintly. “…I know.” The System flickered again. ⟡ Bloodline Registered ⟡ Lunaris Bloodline — S Rank Primary Trait: Moonbound Authority Secondary Trait: Soul Resonance Arjun exhaled slowly. “So the Church wasn’t just afraid of you,” he said. “They were afraid of what you could become.” Lyra looked at her glowing hands, then clenched them. “Then they made a mistake.” She stood. For the first time, her presence felt solid. No longer fragile. No longer fading. “I won’t be your weakness,” she said. “I’ll fight beside you.” Arjun studied her for a long moment. Then nodded. “…Alright.” Far away, within the holy capital of Solaris, alarms rang. A crystal orb shattered. “A second anomaly has awakened,” a priest cried. A cardinal’s face darkened. “The half-elf girl?” “Yes.” The cardinal turned toward a massive war map. “Then it’s confirmed,” he said coldly. “This is no longa retrieval mission.” He raised his staff. “Declare a Holy Crusade.” Back under the dead tree, the sky cleared. Moonlight bathed the land. Lyra stood beside Arjun, silver light softly radiating from her skin. Arjun looked up at the moon. “Looks like the world just chose sides,” he said. Lyra stepped closer. “Then let them,” she replied. “We won’t kneel.” In the distance, thunder rolled—not from a storm… …but from armies beginning to march.
