"The game has just begun..."
My lips quivered as I repeated those words over and over again, each syllable echoing like a curse in the pit of my stomach. My fingers wrapped tightly around the almost empty glass of water, squeezing it so hard that the rim pressed harshly against my skin. My heart sank deep into my stomach, heavy and cold, as though weighed down by chains.
A part of me knew, without a single shred of doubt, that Lucas was ready to do absolutely everything in his power to keep me safe, to shield me, to lock me away from whatever danger his wife and Jack might conjure up
