Emily For a moment Lucas didn’t react as if his mind was refusing to process what I had said. Then, his dark brows drew together creating a deep line on his forehead. He looked at me as if I’d suddenly started speaking a foreign language, one he couldn’t begin to comprehend. Lucas didn’t seem to grasp whatever I had said but after the nurse said he needed to excuse me, I needed rest, he had no other option but to leave. Before walking away, he checked the IV drip, adjusted my blanket, and made sure the remote for the television was within my reach. “I’ll wait,” he said softly, “I’ll wait for when you’re ready to tell me what really happened, Emily.
