The moment Lucas left and closed the door, I held my breath, my hands clasped so tightly in my lap that my knuckles were white.
Mrs. Black let out a long, slow sigh and then smiled at me, “So where were we? That reminds me, are you hungry? Perhaps you need something to eat? You’ve barely touched your tea.”
I glanced down at the cup and smiled at how she took note of everything, “No, thank you. I’m fine,” I managed.
