The sudden ringing of my phone woke me up from sleep, I groaned and noticed the warmed breath of Emily, her naked body curved perfectly into mine.
For a second, I was disoriented, Emily stirred, and I held my breath, hoping she’d stay asleep. Carefully, I untangled myself from her easing her head onto the pillow.
I snatched the phone off the nightstand, the screen glowing with the name Gary. I glanced at the time: 4:58 AM. Gary knew better than to call at this hour unless the sky was falling.
I slid out of bed and padded silently across the cold floor to the balcony doors, cracking them open just enough to slip outside into the biting morning air.
