Chapter nine

1228 Words
— My heart is whole — Two weeks, that’s how long Alice had been working at the ice cream shop and not a single day had Sam showed up. She thought maybe Sam only got ice cream on weekends but even when she took shifts on both Saturday and Sunday, Sam never showed. So Alice was back to working on Monday Thursday and Saturday. She got out of bed practically dragging her body out of bed, she had to get ready for work. It being a Thursday, didn’t have much of work but she still had to be early. Once she was fully dressed, Alice walked out of her room to the kitchen. She found Jane already wake drinking her coffee, when Jane saw Alice her face instantly fell worried. The past week Alice wasn’t herself anyone, there were no jokes no petty questions or embarrassing questions. She looked like before at BLI, it was obvious that she still needed to recover but she was good at acting like she didn’t need help. That wall only broke when she has started to give up, she was slowly losing hope nothing she did brought her one step closer to finding Sam and it killed her. Alice became more anxious, sleepless and quiet, it was worrying Jane and David but no matter what they said she couldn’t accept it. “Good morning Jane.” Alice tried to sound cheerful but the pain was too much to bare, she walked up to the coffee machine and filled her mug. Yep, Alice from the past week had began drinking coffee even more that Jane, not a single cup of tea had passed her mouth. “Morning, slept well?” Alice nodded and wore a fake smile, but Jane saw through the facade, in frustration she let out a heavy sigh. Alice sat down across from Jane, she brought her mug to her lips then began to take a sip of her coffee, stealing side glances from Jane. Neither of them spoke, because if they did, Alice would ignore every word while Jane would get a tremendous headache from pushing too hard. Jane was the first to leave for work, Alice followed a few minutes after Jane had left, she locked up the apartment. Alice was now on her way to work, passing the busy people on the street Alice kept staring at the pavement. Since it was early, some people were rushing to work or to get coffee and only a psycho path would be getting ice cream seven o’clock in the morning. Alice opened up the shop then cleaned the place up, from wiping the windows to the tables and arranging the tables and chairs. She did all that before the clock hit nine, since no one had arrived yet, Alice sat down on one of the chairs taking a breather. In a matter of time her colleagues started arriving, but they still didn’t have any costumers. Their long break took a turn of events when people started to show and that was near noon. They all got off the chairs and went behind the counter apart from Alice, her shift started at one till time of closing. Alice watched people walk in and out but they would never compare to the amount of people she would have to deal with in the afternoon. Lunched passed, people came and left, now it was her turn to stand behind the counter. Just in twenty minutes of starting her shift she had already taken six orders, as she took her eighth order she growled under her breath, it would be a long ass day. Four thirty pm came really fast, Alice had already done what was necessary before she locked up, she placed the last chair on top of the table when the bell on the door rang, indicating a customer. “We’re closed.” Alice spoke without turning her back. The costumer pouted which was of no use because Alice wouldn’t turn around and face her. “It won’t take you long to make my order.” she tired to reason but Alice was tired, very tired that she couldn’t pin point the voice. “Kids of this generation.” Alice mumbled under breath, before she started turn rolling her eye brows. “We’re clos—” she grew quiet when she saw her standing in front of her, she closed her eyes for a second then opened them again, it wasn’t a dream. “Sam?” she asked not sure it actually was her. “No freaking way.” this time Sam spoke as she hugged Alice, holding her tightly, after so long they had met again. Sam still hugging Alice began to speak her head rested on her shoulder, “Alice when did you get out? Did they let you go?” Their hug had now broken apart after so many seconds of holding eachother, Alice rubbed the back of her neck nervous on how to say she tried killing herself and one thing lead to another. “They didn’t quiet let me go, I sort of like got hospitalised, made Avery cry and beg till she didn’t send me back—” Sam cut in, “I’ve been to your house, you weren’t there or did they hide you!” she narrowed her eyes not believing they would go so low as to locking her up in the house. Alice shook her head, “No, I’ve not been living with Avery, I stay with Jane now.” Sam looked at her confused but mostly hurt, who could hand be, she thought. Alice noticed her facial expression, to clear up the air she just said. “It’s a long story.” Sam got a hold of her hand, taking a step closer to Alice which made her legs go weak. “I have time to listen.” she whispered biting down on her lip, Alice looked so lost in thought as stared at her lips, she would do anything to kiss her. Alice came back to reality, she took Sam’s hand towards the door, they locked up together and now they where walking down pavement, neither altering a word. Sam suddenly stopped walking which caused Alice to stop as well, she looked at her confused. “Alice I missed you, I thought I would never see you again.” Sam spoke her eyes holding back all the tears she had bottled in. Alice took a step closer to her a smile upon her face, “You and me both, I missed you Sam and—” she stopped speaking when the thought crossed her mind, what if she didn’t lover her anymore this would take a different turn of events. Sam rolled her eyes before she pressed her lips on Alice’s who was totally caught off guard, Sam removed her lips before Alice could kiss her back. “I still love you Alice and I want to be with you.” she spoke as a smile creeped on her face, Alice felt relieved. She pressed her lips on Sam’s this time even deeper and passionate, the space between them disappeared as they held eachother tightly. Alice was the one that broke the kiss, her forehead pressed against Sam’s, she whispered still short of breath. “I love you, Sam.” both the girls smiled at one another, then their lips met for the third time that day. Neither of them could be happier, they found each again, their hearts were once again whole and nothing would take it away. — The end. —
