Suspicions

Maud's POV

I looked back at him as I walked to the my desk, I dropped the heavy files on the table, I sighed and stretched out my hands, the files were too much and heavy, what was he trying to do?.

I felt like he was trying to keep me busy, but I had a way to go around it, I must keep watching him, I had to clear out the mission as soon as I could, I had to do that so I can go back him to my family and pick up my life back from where I had dropped it.

I stood on my toes and peeped into his office, I couldn't really see well but a caught a quick glance of him with his phone held to his ear, who was he calling?.

I had to be sure of his whereabouts, who he calls and what he was doing, I had to know that to get the evidences I needed.

I readjusted my clothes and headed for his office, I didn't really have anything in mind that I was going to say to him when I get in there, but I just wanted to know who he was talking to.

Like the captain has said, I had to be vigilant, I had do know whatever he was doing and I was also going to be reporting to the captain everyday, so I had to make sure that I had tangible informations for him.

I walked to his office, I knew it wouldn't be right to go in without knocking, that would annoy him but I had no choice than to do that, I didn't want to alert him that I was coming in as I wanted to hear what he was discussing over the phone.

I pushed the door open and walked in, and luckily for me, he didn't notice me, he was still on the call.

"The package is ready?," he asked and leaned a hand on his office desk, "That is so good, kudos for a job well done," he added, "I will be expecting you in my office," he went on and then he turned to me.

He was startled as he shook when he saw me, only someone who had something fishy and something they were hiding could do like that, I knew right from that moment that he was exactly the way he had been described, and I was ready to dig him out.

"I will be expecting you," he said to the unknown caller before dropping the phone, he gave me a puzzled look as he took few steps closer to me, "What are you doing here?," he yelled.

I flinched as his loud voice sent goosebumps into my whole body, I knew that I shouldn't be scared of him, but just his gaze could make me disappear.

He took another step closer and glared at me, "Answer my question," he grunted, "What are you doing here?," he asked again.

I hung my head, maybe I was wrong, maybe is should have thought about what I was going to say before coming into his office, but I didn't, and that had put me in a mess, and a big one at that as I couldn't even think about the reply to give him.

"Were you eavesdropping on my calls?," he asked with a frown, his brows and cheeks were raised and I could tell how angry he was.

I wasn't even expecting him to be so angry about something petty, I didn't know he would be angry to that extent, I didn't even hear all he said to the caller, I only heard some.

"I promise I wasn't eavesdropping on your call," I finally found a word to say, "I...I only came here....I came here to ask you a question," I lied, and I hoped that it wasn't obvious that I did because I didn't want to get fired on my first day, I still had lots of things to do.

"To ask me a question?," he asked and dipped his hand into his pockets, he turned his back to me and I could hear him murmuring to himself.

He was annoyed, and that was so obvious, but I couldn't understand why he would be so annoyed all because I walked into his office without permission, it wasn't that big of a deal.

He turned to me and his face was already back to normal, I heaved a sigh of relief at the sight of that, I felt like I was still on the safe side.

"You wanted to ask me a question, and that made you walk into my office without my permission," he asked and then followed it up with a silent laugh, he moved closer to me again, "Looks like you want to get fired on your first day," he added.

"I...I... I'm...I...I'm sorry, I didn't mean to annoy you," I apologized, "I will take my leave now," I added and turned to the door, at least I already did what I wanted to do, and that was getting do hear what he was talking about on call.

I knew that the person he was talking to would be coming to the company in five minutes like he had said, and I was going to wait patiently to see who the person was.

"Wait," he said and I came to a halt, even though I didn't want to, but the command in his voice couldn't let me give it a second thought, "What was the question you were going to ask me?," he asked.

I stood upright, I didn't know what to tell him, I wanted to give him an answer that wouldn't make him doubt me, I cranked my eyes as I thought about it for minutes, and then I turned to him, "I was going to ask if I should summarize those files on the system on in another file?," I was glad as I found that convincing enough.

"Is that all?," he asked and I nodded in response, "Just do it whatever way you want," he added and I nodded again.

I quickly turned to the door and I was about to leave again when his voice came at me, "Hey wait," I turned to him reluctantly, "Don't just come into my office without my permission next time," he added.

"Yes, yes, I will keep that in mind," I responded and rushed out of his office.

I got to my seat and heaved a sigh of relief, that was really a narrow escape, I could have been caught and my identity would have been revealed.

I rested my head on my desk and sighed, breathing out my fear.

I then resumed to the files and began to summarize it as he had ordered, it wasn't so easy as I hadn't done that before, but I did it nevertheless.

Just few moments later, a man walked in with a carton box in his hands, he walked to my desk with a smile, "Hi, I'm Ruben, and I'm here to see the CEO," said.

"Just a minute," I said to him and punched a button on the intercom before holding it up to my ear, "Sir, there is someone here who claims to be Ruben, and he his...."

"Let him in," he said even before I could finish what I was going to say, "Just let him in now," he added.

"Alright sir," I responded and turned to the man, "You may go in," I informed.

"Thank you," Ruben responded and walked the office.

My excitement took over me again, I wanted to see what he had in the box, I wanted to know everything about their meeting.

I followed right behind him and I made sure that he didn't know that, we were trained at that and I could do it perfectly.

He pushed the door open and I walked in with him, "What are you doing here again?," the CEO yelled again.

What was so special and secretive about his office that he wouldn't let me come in?, it was getting so suspicious, what was he trying to hide?, it seemed like there was more to it than I had imagined.

"What are you doing here woman," he shouted and the box in Ruben's hand fell to the floor, I didn't know why he was affected by his shout.

I looked down at the box, it was slightly open, I peeped to see if I could see something, and I did.

There was a sealed nylon with a white content in it, and again, my anxiety took over me and I bent to pick it up.

I looked at the CEO and his eyes were widened, he seemed so surprised, I turned back to Ruben and he also had the same look, but one could also see the fear in his eyes.

I stared back at the nylon in my hand, what could this white content be?.
