CHAPTER ONE Agent Maud Brown The loud sound of the alarm sent shivers into Maud's body, she jumped up from the bed and picked up her gun from the bedside table, "Who is there?," Maud asked, looking around the room, she cracked her gun, "Who is there?," she asked again. She stood up from the bed, staying at alert as usual, "Who..." the alarm sound cut her off. Maud fell back to the bed and sighed at how stupid she was, "It's only an alarm Maud," she chuckled, she had set the alarm months ago before going on her last mission. She was just back home after months of being on a mission, she was the ace of her team and almost all missions were being carried out by her. Everything about her has been mission, mission, and mission, she never got time to make friends, she doesn't even have enough time for herself. Maud has had to play different roles and characters, she has had to change her name couple of times. Sometimes, her team calls her the girl with different names. Playing some roles were fun to her, while some were so demanding, Maud would never forget having to pretend as as the opposite s*x. She found it difficult to cope, she had to live in a room with five other guys, it was so hard to do that, but she did it anyway. Along the way, Maud made a friend among the five guys. James was a young boy who had a touching story, he had to work with the arm traffickers to get some money for his mom's operation. Maud became friends with him, but all she wanted to do was get some informations about their criminal activities. Although she felt hurt to see James getting jailed when all he wanted to do was help his sick mother, but that was one of the prices she has had to pay as a secret agent. She stood up from the bed and walked into the closet, she picked up the bathrobe that was hung on the robe hook, Maud slid into it and her mouth fell open, she rushed back into the room and stood in front of the mirror. She gasped and covered her mouth as she was surprised to see how tall she has gotten in nine months, the robe was below her knees the last time she wore it, but it has already gotten to her thighs, "Maud, you have to take some time off," she said to the mirror, "You really have to take weeks off work," she said again. She never got time for herself, she has had to live as different person all her life, taking a off will be a great idea. She dragged her feet into the bathroom, and stepped under the shower. Minutes later, Maud walked back into the room, she sat in front of the mirror and applied her lotion gently on her skin which was bright as a moonstone. She dried her hair with another towel and straighten it, her long moon shadow black hair crashed over her shoulders. Her sea rover blue eyes gazed at the mirror over her heart shaped lips as she combed her hair. She picked up a pair of black jeans and slid into it, she had a shapely figure which was imp-thin, Maud had a curvilinear waist and a burnished complexion. A pair of slender eyebrows looked down on a velvety eyelashes, her sea-nymph ear framed a dainty nose. She walked into the closet and picked a dress and slid into it, she walked back to the room, she stood in front of the mirror, "Looks good," she murmured. The dress was a strapless flowery black mikado gown, adorned with a plunging v-neckline and a slit that reached up to her thighs. She wore black heels and a held a black purse, Maud picked her car key from the bedside table and stepped out of the room. It was the award ceremony party that was organized for her for the successful completion of the last mission she went to. It was a very dangerous mission that could cost her her life, no one was ready to go on the mission except Maud, she went alone and came back with the necessary informations they needed. Maud got to the garage and entered into her car, she zoomed off to the venue. Minutes later, she drove into the garage of a big building, it was a hotel, she alighted from the car, and marched into the hotel, picking her legs one after the other and making sure she won't step on her gown. She moved to where the receptionist was, "Hi, the key please?," she requested. The receptionist nodded and handed the key over to here, "Here you go ma'am," she responded. Maud smiled and took the key from her, she walked to one of the room and opened it, it was an elevator. She got into it and pressed on a code, and seconds later, the elevator bell rang and she stepped into a different place entirely. It was the secret agent underground, there were offices on her right and left, her eyes caught her own office, her name "Maud Brown" was engraved on the door, she was the leader of her own team. Maud opened a door and walked into their hall which was used for meetings and ceremonies. The place was filled with other members of the secret agent team, she walked pass some of them until she got to their captain, "At your command captain," Maud said and saluted him. The captain, Fred turned to her with a smile, he dropped the champagne glass in his hand and walked to her, "Congratulations Maud," he said, stretching out his hand for a shake. "Thanks captain," Maud saluted him again, it was wrong to shake the hands of the higher-ups and the captain was one. "Common Maud, we aren't working now," Fred said, still stretching out his hand. "But captain, it..." "Maud, it is a command," Fred frowned and Maud shook him, "Have a seat," he said with a smile. Maud took her seat, "Thanks captain," she murmured. Minutes later, the ceremony began and one of them stepped on the stage, "Undetected." "Unsuspected," they all chorused their team's slogan. "We will begin the ceremony now by welcoming the captain to the stage," the guy said and Fred stood up. The remaining team members including Maud stood up and saluted Fred as he walked to the stage. They stayed like that as he took his speech, after minutes of thanking the whole team, "Can we please welcome Maud Brown on stage," he said and they began to cheer and clap. Maud smiled as she joined Fred on the stage, "We all know how hardworking Maud Brown is," Fred started, "She took up the mission that no one was willing to do, not even me," he added and they all laughed, "So we are here today to give honor to whom honor is due," he continued, "This is the medal for merit," Fred said and hung it around her neck, "Once again, congratulations," he said and ushered her down the stage. "Thanks captain," Maud said again with a smile and the clapping and cheering started again. Some of the team member, mostly the interns went around with a tray of wine and served the other members. Maud still has a smile on her face as she stepped down the stage, "Hey," she heard someone call. Maud stopped and turned, it was Dean, "Congratulations," he said and moved closer to her, "I'm really happy for you," he added. "Thanks Dean," Maud replied and turned to leave but Dean pulled her back, he wrapped his hand around her waist and beamed, "What are you trying to do?," Maud asked. Dean was the Captain's son, and for a while Maud has been feeling uncomfortable with him, he was always trying to make advances at her, "Will you like to dance?," Dean requested, but it was more like a notification as he began to dance immediately, pulling Maud with every dance step he took. Maud could only stare at him, she couldn't say anything as Dean was the Captain's son, she wouldn't want to say anything bad, she could remember her teammate getting fired because she talked back at Dean. "Hey Maud," Dean said as they danced, he brought his head closer to hers, he tilted his head to the side, brushing his cheeks against hers, "I really wish to have you tonight," he murmured. Maud pulled away from him as gave him a horrible look, "Excuse me?," she barked, "What did you just say?," Maud asked, she has had enough of him. Captain Fred walked to them, Maud froze as she saw him, she was scared that he would fire her just like he did to her teammate, "What is going on here?," Captain Fred asked, but with a smile, "You both can continue what you were doing later, but I need to see Maud now," he added and Maud sighed, it was a relief that he didn't know what happened between them. "Come with me Maud," Captain Fred said and walked towards his office as Maud followed behind him. He entered into the office and picked a file on his table, he then gave it to Maud, "You will be going to New York," he announced. Maud cranked her eyes, she didn't understand what he was saying, she opened the file and the first thing she saw was the picture of a guy, "There is a new mission Maud, and I can only trust you on this," Fred explained. Maud closed up the file and looked up at Fred, she bent her head and thought to herself, she wanted to seek for some weeks off before getting back to work, but another mission was up, she didn't know if she should turn it down or take it. Maud felt a hand on her shoulder, she looked up, "Your promotion is guaranteed if you complete the mission," Fred hinted with a smile, "I will be retiring soon and I want a reliable person like you as the captain of this team," he added. A big smile fell on Maud's face, she had always imagined being the captain of the team, and the mission was a free ticket to that. Maud saluted Fred, "At your command Captain," she smiled, "When will I leave for New York?," Maud asked. "Tomorrow morning," Captain Fred said and handed the tickets and other things she will be needing for the new mission, "Have a nice time as the secretary to the billionaire," Fred teased and tapped her shoulder, "I'm counting on you," he added and walked out of the office. Maud watched him as he walked out before letting out a low scream. Just one more mission, just one mission to becoming the captain.
