Chapter NineSheena awoke with a feeling of happiness that made her spring out of bed long before she was called and fling open the wooden shutters of her window.
It was very early. The sky over Paris was still grey with the shadows of the night and yet she felt as if everything was bathed in sunshine.
Indeed her eyes felt dazzled with the brilliance of her own joy, so that when a little while later the sun did break through it seemed somehow dim in comparison with her own emotions.
‘I am in love! I am in love!’
The very birds singing in the trees outside seemed to chirp the words and finally she ran to the mirror to see if her face had changed and if indeed she looked a very different person because of the alteration in her heart.
