Rufina’s life has little joy, since her parents passing she lives and works on the wrong side of the tracks in a town called Lunisa. She’s quiet but fiery and usually keeps to herself. On her 18th birthday she hopes to have saved enough money to leave and never look back, ignoring the fact she will also then be yearning for her fated mate. The other side of the tracks is home to Ezekiel, Zion and Caleb Silverston. Triplet brothers who are next in line to be Alphas of the strongest pack, Yellowcrest. Rufina of course knew who the brothers were, they would be her alphas, she had an idea of what they were like and wasn’t interested in sticking around to be led by such monsters. The boys are impatiently waiting for their fated mates to find their way to them and often wondered if they should venture to neighbouring packs in search for them. Rufina on the other hand wasn’t in the slightest bothered as she was certain her mate would be far from Lunisa. Oh how she couldn’t have been more wrong…

Crimson
Waking up was the hardest bit of my day. Something about the heavy covers on me gave me a comfort I’ll always be longing for. Startled by my alarm for the fourth time I decided I’m finally ready to part with my bed, slowly rolling over to give my phone one last whack i sat up, bunching my blanket over my shoulders. The cold always pinched right through me in the mornings, I hate my life. 5:30am I read through tired eyes and scrambled out of bed to get ready for school. Desperate to feel some warmth, i slinked to my bathroom for a shower only to be met with ice cold water. s**t. I was short on gas this month and my hot water was cut off. Looking in the mirror at my crimson hair all tangled and messy I sighed and pulled a brush through. “Just another day” I said to myself. One more day until I’m 18 and can begin the preparations to leave Lunisa once and for all. After rummaging through my drawers to find something somewhat appropriate for school I grabbed a coffee and reluctantly stepped foot outside my door. The walk to school was long, real long. If I was 18 I would probably just shift and run to school but alas, 17 haunts me. I live on the other side of the tracks to where school is, if you’re from here you’re painted as trouble right from the get go, but that’s not something I want to get into right now. Don’t get me wrong, Lunisa was pretty, beautiful to be honest with you. It’s currently winter so sparkled blankets of snow cover every inch, from the town, to the mountains that watch over us. Finally at the track cross over I hopped over the small fence and trudged onward towards school. I could feel my face burning from cold spits of air and I just knew my cheeks were embarrassingly pink, thinking about it I could’ve worn something warmer. Yet here I am in my black mini skirt and opaque tights, which I decided to couple with a thin black pleated jumper and of course my favourite red leather jacket. The jacket had been a present from my late parents when I was younger, my dad insisted on it being blood red like my hair and promised me that I’d “grow into it.” I mean, he wasn’t wrong. Third person POV. Rufina stepped through the warmly lit town unaware of the day ahead, finally getting close to school. Her once tired blue eyes now sharp and awake scanned for the cafe opposite the school to grab some breakfast before she took on the day. She hurried along to the entrance hoping to grab a croissant and maybe another coffee when she was met by the cafe owner Louisa. “We’re closed right now Rufina” she said assertively. “Oh come on Louisa, I’m starving.” Rufina whined. “Darling, any other day would have been fine just not today come back at lunch and I’ll sort something out for you.” Louisa compromised. “Louisa I know you hate it when I harass you and I promise I can stand here allll morning. Cmon let me have a croissant and I’ll leave you alone” Rufina exclaimed playfully. Louisa gently took Rufina by the arm and pulled her outside a little more. “Rufina the best I can do is grab you a breakfast bar quick, I have surprise guests this morning and can’t afford to have anything mess this up.” Louisa pleaded. “Oh no! I’m sorry Louisa I didn’t mean to cause any stress, but I’ll take you up on that i’m too hungry to argue” Rufina joked. Louisa smiled warmly and turned back into the cafe to grab Rufina some breakfast, Rufina dared not to peek in even though the curiosity was eating her a little. Suddenly the door pushed open and she caught the smell of warm pastry and began to salivate. “You’re a life saver Louisa you have no idea the things I’d do to you right now!” Rufina joked as she turned around to grab the bar. As she turned her eyes climbed up to what was not Louisa, it was instead Zion Silverston. He hung over Rufina by about a foot exactly, his shoulders incredibly broad, alpha blood coursing through his veins. There he stood in a black suit and deep red shirt, his chocolate brown hair positioned perfectly giving open view to his chiseled cheekbones and emerald green eyes. His thick eyebrows furrowed, his gaze fixed on Rufina, his plump lips parted as if he was going to speak. Rufina stood below him unimpressed with the anticipation. “You’re not Louisa” she announced. Zion’s lips snapped closed as he further inspected Rufina. “No, I’m not Louisa but i’d like to hear what you were going to do to me if I was” his voice stern but comforting. Rufina blushed of embarrassment remembering what she had said, she looked down at her feet and for once she didn’t know what to say. “I take it this is for you” he sighed and handed her the bar Louisa had gone to get. “Thank you” Rufina said quietly. Zion continued to stare at her, Rufina had enough and looked back up obviously annoyed. Her eyes met Zions and she held the gaze for a moment, arched an eyebrow and said “It’s rude to stare you know.” Zion taken aback, let out a soft chuckle flashing his sharp white teeth. Rufina continued to be unimpressed, she folded her arms and held his gaze adamant that she would win this unspoken argument. Zion folded his arms in unison with her and stepped forward a little, he lowered his mouth to Rufina’s ear and spoke softly, almost a low growl. “In my opinion, it would be rude not to stare at artwork” His breath hot on Rufina’s neck, his words sent a little shiver down her spine. He sprang back up and was once again towering over her “Have a good day crimson” he said playfully before holding his gaze once more then turning back into the cafe. Rufina stood a moment a little confused and conflicted on what had just happened and why it had happened. She opened her breakfast bar with her teeth, grunted and turned to walk into school. Rufina’s POV All morning all I could think about was the encounter with Zion Silverston. I’d never spoken to any of the alphas to be. There were 3, Ezekiel, Caleb and Zion all triplets. God I feel bad for their mother. They were only a year older than me, they stand at 19 turning 20 in the upcoming months, when they will take charge as the new pack alphas. I knew them In passing through school, but I never thought much of them. Ezekiel is a little scary in my opinion, he’s very head strong and I remember he used to like to fight. Caleb I didn’t know much about at all I just assumed he was the same as his older brother and Zion… well now I know Zion is a bit forward and maybe flirty if I was reading that right. To me, they all present as stuck up and liked to look down on a lot of people, me included, i live over the tracks so I’m aware of their hatred of me. But the impression Zion just gave me was different, I think he just thrived off the power he had there, he knows where I’m from and he knows I know who he is and how powerful he is. He is handsome though, all of them are.
