Long Island, New York was on the other side of the country, a long way from Seattle. The direct flight to New York City was about six hours, then another six hour drive to reach Greenport where Anson Summerfield was building his posh housing development located on the eastern end of Long Island. I called to set up an appointment. We didn’t want to make the trip for nothing and waste valuable time. Mr. Summerfield was curt but courteous on the phone and agreed to see us when I said we were working with the team investigating Jacqueline’s murder. He said we could hitch a ride in his private plane in New York, since a partner, Vic Shore, was flying to Greenport that very day. Flying would save us time and the agony of driving.
