Mr Alaric
Location: Paris present day
It was a lovely evening in Paris. Evelyn Scott, a beautiful woman in her early forties, stood by the kitchen sink, washing dishes, her husband and their twin daughters were at work. The house was so quiet without them around.
Evelyn was about to walk upstairs with a basket of washed clothes when a knock came. It was firm and unexpected. Evelyn's glance moved toward the big clock. "It is still early for them to return now. Who could it be, coming !!!!!" She yelled, keeping the basket she was holding beside the stairs and walked over.
She opened the door, and a tall man with grey hair stood. He wore grey plane trousers and a white T-shirt, using a cane to support himself.
"Bonjour Sir Alaric," she greeted softly. "I would have prepared something if I knew you were coming, hmmmm, don't you want to come inside?" She asked politely, moving a little from the door. You could tell she was nervous from her shaking voice.
"Am okay, Mrs Evelyn, I am not here for tea," he replied, his voice cold and calm. " Let's just move straight to the point. I'll be renovating this property and I need your family to move out by next week.""
Evelyn froze — ""Next week? Did we do something wrong, Mr Alaric? She asked in fear.
"No Mrs Evelyn, you did nothing wrong," he replied.
"But... I don't understand how."
"Mrs Evelyn, please don't make it look as if I am heartless. I need this house empty by Friday, that will be all." With that, he left the compound. Evelyn stood frozen, trying to process everything that just happened. She had always known he was heartless, but not to this extent. With a heavy sign, she closed the door behind her, pressed her back against it and slid to the floor, her legs bottled up in her chest, different thoughts flying through her mind, no family, no relatives, no one to run to, we didn't even have enough. She took a deep breath and walked upstairs with the basket.
Two hours later.....
Evelyn sat at the dining table, a wooden box of bills and documents spread before her, her hands moved through them again and again hoping to find hidden savings, but as she had feared there was nothing, her fingers brushed through her hair in frustration. Then there was a knock at the door, her eyes moved to the clock, and a small smile escaped her lips. Setting the papers aside, she walked over and opened the door. "Welcome home, darling, how was the work?" She hugged him and pressed a gentle peck on his lip, like she had always done. "I bought your favorite," he said, holding out a plate of strawberry ice cream with a warm smile. "Honey I already told you---- you don't have to keep doing this anymore, we are not teenagers," she replied shaking her head but couldn't hold her smile
"But you're my wife, and I will do everything to make her happy," he said, shutting the door behind him. ""Okay, go freshen up, we have a lot to discuss,"" She said, looking very serious. He nodded with a concerned look and headed upstairs.
An hour later, while they were talking, the door opened and their children rushed in laughing. "Good evening mama and papa," they chorused cheerfully. "Welcome home babies, how was work," Evelyn asked still glancing at her husband's phone with a curious look. "What's up with all this papers dad," Adriana asked sliding on the sofa beside him. “We’re moving out,” Evelyn replied calmly, her eyes meeting with her husband's. "Why are we moving out, what did Mr Alaric said we did." Layla asked placing her hands on her waist her expression filled with hate. ""Well, Mr. Alaric wants to renovate his house, so he asked us to move,""Derek said, his voice calm but firm. "And he gave us till Friday next week." Evelyn added.
"And how is that possible? Today is Saturday, it's not even up to a week, it's about time, I taught that man a lesson," Adriana spat in anger, standing up, but was held back by her sister. "Please not now. If you do that now, it would only make matters worse. Just remain calm," Layla pleaded, holding her arm. Adriana took a deep breath and sat back down.
"So what do you suggest we do," Layla asked, calmly sitting beside her mom. ""We’re still looking, Layla,"" Evelyn replied, giving a reassuring smile. “But don’t worry—we’ll be out before Friday.” "We just got our salaries today if that would help," Layla suggested. "Yes it would, our luck is turning gradually," Derek said smiling and nodding. ""Let’s just have dinner and get a good night’s rest. We’ll deal with all of this tomorrow—you all look stressed,"" Evelyn suggested.
“Finally, my kind of language!” Adriana screamed excitedly, racing straight to the kitchen. The family laughed at Adriana's displayed behavior. After dinner, they all retired to bed, hoping tomorrow would be better than today.
The next morning, Adriana woke up to the loud sound of a tractor. She yawned, turning to the other direction of her bed, but the sound grew louder. Why now!? She reached for her phone, Huh, it's just 5:45 am—who the hell is that? She dragged her feet off the bed and went downstairs. Layla's eyes widened immediately she saw her coming down. "Oh no, she's awake," Layla said, tapping her mom."" What's going on,""Adriana asked, still yawning?
"Nothing honey, go back to bed," Evelyn answered, her face lined with stress. "I can't go back to sleep with that noise mom—what's happening?," Adriana insisted, glancing towards the window. Her eyes widened in shock, "Ohhhh, now that man has done it," Adriana yelled in anger. Running straight to the kitchen, she picked up a knife and made her way to the door.
