The Eternal Lovers – Part 2
The Temple of the Last Door (Petra, Year Unknown)
Aarav and Saanvi stood in the heart of the ancient temple, their hands intertwined. Before them, the Last Door loomed—its massive stone surface covered in inscriptions of names. Names of those who had come before. Names of those who had vanished.
The Guardian of Fate, a figure wrapped in shifting shadows, floated before them. His voice echoed through the chamber.
"You have come seeking freedom from eternity. But you know not what you ask."
Saanvi’s heart pounded. Had this all been a mistake?
Aarav stepped forward, his voice steady. "We have lived through centuries. We have lost everything a thousand times over. We are ready."
The Guardian's eyes glowed like dying stars. "Then choose. One of you may step through. The other must stay behind, forever."
Aarav and Saanvi froze. The air in the chamber grew heavy.
Only one of them could pass?
Saanvi turned to him, eyes searching his face. "Aarav, we… we never considered—"
Aarav tightened his grip on her hand. "We always said we'd face this together."
The Guardian spoke again, his voice like rusted iron. "You misunderstand. The one who remains will not live. They will become the new Guardian of Fate. They will be bound to this temple, watching over the cycle forever. The Last Door demands a keeper."
Saanvi gasped. One of them had to become the Guardian?
Aarav's expression hardened. "Then we go together. We both step through."
The Guardian let out a low, echoing laugh. "You believe you are the first to think this? The first to try? The Door allows only one. Choose."

The Betrayal of Time
Before either of them could respond, a sudden movement came from the shadows.
A dagger flashed.
Saanvi cried out. Aarav barely had time to react before the blade sank deep into his side.
He staggered, clutching his wound, eyes wide in shock.
Saarya stood behind him, her golden eyes burning.
"Fools," she whispered. "You were never meant to reach this place."
Saanvi lunged at her, rage filling her veins. "Why? Why would you do this?"
Saarya's face twisted with sorrow. "Because I have already made this choice. Long ago."
Saanvi’s breath caught. "What are you saying?"
Saarya looked at the Guardian, then back at the door. "I was meant to enter it. But someone betrayed me. Instead, I became this—" she gestured to herself, her body flickering like an illusion, neither alive nor dead. "And I will not let you take my place."
Aarav coughed, blood dripping from his lips. "You… you were the Guardian before?"
Saarya nodded. "Yes. But I refused the throne. And I was cast out. That is why I still wander. Why I can never die. I tried to warn you, but you would not listen."
Saanvi knelt beside Aarav, pressing her hands to his wound. "Stay with me," she whispered. "Please, stay with me."
Aarav’s grip tightened around her wrist. His voice was weak, but his eyes held fire. "Saanvi… listen to me. One of us has to end this."

The Choice Beyond Time
Saanvi turned toward the Last Door. It pulsed now, as if sensing the weight of their decision.
She looked back at Aarav, his breath shallow but determined. He was dying.
Saarya’s voice was soft. "Only one of you may step through. And it must be now."
Saanvi's heart shattered. If she stepped through, Aarav would be lost to time. But if she stayed behind… she would become the new Guardian, trapped for eternity.
Tears ran down her face.
She had to choose.
Option 1: Saanvi steps through the Last Door.
The moment she crosses, the temple trembles. The world fades.
Aarav’s body vanishes.
Saanvi finds herself in a new world, beyond time—but alone.
Option 2: Aarav pushes Saanvi through at the last second.
He collapses, smiling through his pain. "Live… for both of us."
The door slams shut.
Saanvi is lost to the unknown, and Aarav becomes the new Guardian of Fate.
Option 3: Neither steps through.
They destroy the Last Door, breaking the cycle forever.
But in doing so, they lose something they don’t yet understand…
