Love, Simple and TrueA Story of Josh & Mel
Chapter 1: First Glance I still remember the first time I saw Mel. It wasn’t one of those dramatic, slow-motion moments you see in movies. No wind blowing, no background music—just her, standing by the café counter, frowning at the menu like it had personally offended her. I was behind her in line, pretending not to notice how adorable she looked while debating whether to get an iced latte or a cappuccino. "Iced latte or cappuccino?" she suddenly asked, turning to me. Surprised, I blinked. "Depends. Do you like adventure or comfort?" She tilted her head. "Adventure, I guess." "Then go for the cappuccino. More flavor, more drama." She smiled, ordered the cappuccino, and before I knew it, we ended up sitting at the same table. That one casual conversation turned into an hour of effortless laughter and unexpected connections. I walked out of that café knowing one thing—I had to see her again. And I did. Chapter 2: Morning Texts & Late-Night Calls Our days quickly fell into a rhythm. Mornings started with her "Good morning, sunshine!" texts, even on cloudy days. I’d reply with something cheesy like, "Good morning, my caffeine queen," knowing it would make her roll her eyes, but secretly, she loved it. At night, our conversations stretched for hours. We talked about everything—our childhood dreams, the weirdest things we’d ever eaten, what we’d do if we won the lottery. One night, as we lay in our separate beds, phones pressed to our ears, she suddenly whispered, "Josh, do you ever think about forever?" I smiled in the darkness. "With you? All the time." The silence that followed wasn’t empty—it was full of something deeper, something unspoken but completely understood. Chapter 3: Our Favorite Place We discovered our spot on accident—a tiny bookstore café tucked away on a quiet street. It had dim lighting, soft jazz, and the smell of old pages mixed with freshly brewed coffee. It became our place. I’d sit across from her, pretending to read while actually watching her. She’d bite her lip in concentration, her eyes scanning the pages, completely absorbed. One afternoon, I slid a tiny note across the table, hidden between the pages of her book. She glanced at me, suspicious, before unfolding it. You look really beautiful when you read. Her cheeks turned pink, and she tried to act unbothered, but I saw her smile. Chapter 4: Love in Little Things Grand gestures are nice, but I’ve learned that love lives in the little things. Like how Mel always made sure I drank enough water. Or how I remembered to bring her an extra sweater when we went out because she always forgot. She left sticky notes in my bag—tiny messages like You’ve got this! or Meet me for ice cream after class? I knew she loved daisy flowers, so whenever I saw them, I bought her one. Just one, because she once said, "A single flower feels more personal than a whole bouquet." And when she was too tired to function, I tied her shoelaces for her. Love wasn’t just in the big words; it was in the small, quiet moments. Chapter 5: Dancing in the Rain The rain caught us off guard one evening as we walked home. We were already soaked when Mel grabbed my hand and spun me around. "Mel, what are you doing?" I laughed. "Dancing, obviously!" she said, twirling. I hesitated, but she pulled me in, her laughter contagious. We danced like fools in the middle of the street, our clothes drenched, our faces lit up with pure joy. When she finally stopped, panting, she looked up at me, raindrops clinging to her lashes. "Best moment of my life," she whispered. "Mine too," I said, before kissing her—right there, in the rain, like every cliché romance novel ever. And it was perfect. Chapter 6: Lazy Sundays Sunday mornings were our favorite. No alarms, no rush—just us, wrapped in blankets, sipping coffee and watching old sitcoms. Mel had a habit of stealing all the pillows. I had a habit of stealing all the blankets. Somehow, we made it work. "You know what I love most about you?" she asked one Sunday, her head resting on my chest. "Everything?" I teased. She flicked my nose. "Your laugh. It’s like home." I kissed the top of her head. "And you, Mel, are my home." Chapter 7: Handwritten Letters One day, I found an envelope on my desk. Inside was a letter in Mel’s neat handwriting. Josh, In case I haven’t told you enough, I adore you. Not just the big things—the way you make me laugh or hold my hand—but the little things too. Like how you always check if I’m okay, how you remember my favorite songs, how you make my world brighter without even trying. I wrote back. Mel, If love was measured in words, I’d run out of pages trying to describe how much you mean to me. But since it’s not, I’ll just say this—you are my favorite everything. Chapter 8: A Surprise for You Mel loved surprises, so I planned a simple one—an evening picnic under fairy lights. When she arrived, her eyes went wide. "Josh… this is beautiful." I watched as she took everything in—the twinkling lights, the cozy blanket, the basket filled with her favorite snacks. "You did all this for me?" she whispered. "Always," I said, pulling her into a hug. And that night, as we lay side by side, gazing at the stars, I knew—I’d spend the rest of my life making her smile like that. Chapter 9: Stargazing and Whispers There’s something magical about lying under the night sky with the person you love. "Do you think we’ll always be like this?" Mel asked softly. "Like what?" "Happy. Together." I turned to her, tracing her fingers with mine. "Without a doubt." She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder. "Me too." And in that moment, the stars weren’t the only things shining. Chapter 10: Always and Forever One evening, I took her back to the café where it all started. As she sat down, I slid a note across the table—just like the first time. She opened it and gasped. Will you marry me? When she looked up, I was on one knee, a ring in my hand. "Mel, from the moment you asked me about coffee, I knew you were special. I’ve loved every moment with you, and I want forever. Will you marry me?" Tears filled her eyes as she nodded. "Yes, Josh. A million times yes!" As I slipped the ring on her finger, I knew—ours was a love that would last. Always and forever. The End
