Chapter 5

I went back inside ready to finally try my triple chocolate cake. I noticed my father and Sylvia walking upstairs when I came inside. “We’re going to bed sweetie; we’ll see you in the morning.” My dad said over his shoulder. “Okay!” I said back, making my way to the kitchen. As I walked into the kitchen, I ran into Cole. “Oh! You’re awake! Did you have a good nap?” I asked while taking my slice of triple chocolate cake out of the fridge. He was digging into his slice of lemon sour cream pound cake, leaning against the counter. His hair was messy, and his eyes were only half open. He hummed out a yes, nodding slightly as he continued to dig into his cake. I took my cake into the dining room. Sitting down, I immediately started to devour it. The cake melted as soon as it touched my tongue, eliciting moans of delight to bubble up from my throat. Cole strutted in a couple of moments later with his cake slice, it was half gone, he sat down next to me. “I could hear you all the way in the kitchen. Is it that good?” I could feel my cheeks get red as I nodded meekly. “You wanna try it?” I said, scooping up a bite onto my fork and offering it to him. He set his own fork down, reaching over to grab my hand gently, holding it still for him. He leaned in, keeping eye contact with me the whole time, while he took the bite into his mouth. I silently gulped as I watched him, never having had this intense eye contact between us before. “I-Is it good?” I stammered out, feeling nervous all of a sudden. He nodded as he swallowed the bite. “I can see why you were being so noisy in here.” My eyes widened and face flushed in embarrassment as I realized he had heard me moaning over cake. “Do you wanna try mine?” I nodded excitedly, feeling my nerves fade at the mention of more cake. “Of course.” he chuckled at my enthusiasm, scooping up a bite of his own cake and offering it to me. I decided to mimic how he ate the bite I offered him, hoping to give him the same nervousness as he did to me. I grabbed his hand to steady his fork. Looking into his eyes, I guided the fork into my mouth. His eyes darkened as he watched me. He leaned in closely after I backed up from the fork and grabbed my chin. “Good girl.” he whispered lowly. My eyes widened again in surprise, and he started laughing. “You should see your face, Elena, I’m just kidding.” He went back to eating his cake. I turned back to start eating mine as well, but the way he said ‘good girl’ made my heart flutter a little bit, it just kept playing on a loop in my head. We finished eating the rest of our cake in silence. “Do you wanna watch a movie?” Cole asked as he was throwing away his cake box. “My nap kind of threw my schedule off, I’m not tired yet.” I glanced at the clock; it was only 10pm. “Yeah, I’m down.” I hurried to my room to quickly grab a blanket before meeting him back in the living room. “What are we watching?” I asked as I sat down on the couch, snuggling up in my blanket. He was crouched down by the DVD player, he held up the DVD so I could see it, it looked like a horror. “I found this one in my bag, it looked promising.” He gave me a slight smirk. He knew I didn’t like horror movies. “Is that okay?” He asked me, his smile widening as he watched me grimace. “Is it really scary?” I nervously played with a loose string on my blanket, debating if it was worth watching it just to spend time with Cole, in hopes that we could make up for all the lost time. He chuckled softly. “I haven’t seen it yet, but it shouldn’t be too scary.” He reassured me. I relaxed a bit in my seat, deciding I would stay and watch it with him. He popped the DVD into the tray, flipped the lights off, then sat down next to me, fiddling with the remote to turn the TV on and play the movie. The living room was pitch black until the movie started up. It started out pretty normal, a family moving into an old house that was left to them in the will of some distant uncle. About a third of the way into the movie, it started to really ramp up. I had my face almost completely covered by my blanket. My eyes were peeking just above the top of my blanket when the movie jump scared me. I yelped, throwing the blanket completely over me. “Come here.” Cole said between laughs, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me into his chest. I let him, feeling comforted by his warm arms. He smelled good, musky and minty. “Are you smelling me?” he asked in a low amused tone. “N-no!” I stammered out, tearing myself from his arms and sitting up, feeling my face begin to heat up. “It’s fine.” He grabbed my arm, pulling me back against him. “I don’t mind.” He sounded so serious, not a hint of a joke in his voice. He pulled the blanket over my head so I couldn’t see the screen as he continued to watch the movie. I felt myself melt into him, as he gently caressed my back up and down. His heartbeat was steady as I pressed my ear to his chest. I stiffened as I heard a scream from the TV. His arms tightened around me as if to protect me. I lifted my head to look at him; he was already looking down at me. “Than-” before I could finish what I was saying, his lips crashed into mine, filling me with a heat I had never experienced before. His hand moved up from my back to gently cradle the back of my head. I could almost feel the need in the way his lips devoured mine. After what felt like both an eternity and too soon, he broke the kiss. I stared at him in shock, my mouth slightly parted as I tried to process what had just happened. “I’m sorry.” he mumbled, his jaw clenching slightly. He grabbed the remote and shut the movie off, gently slipping away from me and headed off towards his room. What the hell was that?!
