Chioma point of view (pov) : my happy days
***Flashback***
It was my 16th birthday, and the air was electric with excitement. My mom and friends had poured their hearts into organizing a spectacular celebration just for me. The anticipation was palpable as I walked into the room, greeted by colorful decorations and the warm smiles of my closest friends. I could hardly believe how special they had made this day feel!It was a radiant morning, filled with excitement, especially because my dad, Mr. Okorie, was coming home. I could hardly contain my joy as I shouted, “Daddy!” and dashed to greet him. To me, my dad is nothing short of a hero, and I treasure every moment we share. My mom, too, is my unwavering strength; I hold her close to my heart. Together, they’ve built a warm and nurturing home, overflowing with love and a deep faith in our Lord Jesus.
Growing up in a Christian household has profoundly shaped my identity. My father frequently reminds me of my worth. He lovingly calls me by my full name, Chioma Evander Okorie, and proudly refers to me as his only daughter and heir. He often says, “You know how much I love you, sweetheart. While it’s wonderful to strive to impress me, remember to live for God and yourself. Know your identity in Christ, stand firm for what is right, and never lose sight of who you are, no matter what challenges the world throws your way.” His words resonate in my heart, guiding me through life's ups and downs.
And then there’s my mom, my pillar of strength. She dedicates her heart and time to my dad and me, ensuring we are always well cared for. As a devoted housewife, she plays a vital role in our lives. I once curiously asked her why she chose not to work like many other women. With a gentle smile, she explained that, for her, a woman’s place is to nurture her home and family. She left her banking job to prioritize us, especially since my dad, a pilot, is often away. I truly admire her ability to balance her responsibilities with grace and love. While my dad’s hard work provides for us, it’s my mom’s unwavering commitment that truly holds our family together.
Every day is a gift, but my 16th birthday stands out as a particularly special blessing. My room overflowed with stunning designer dresses and sparkling jewelry, all from my friends and family. “Mom, isn’t this a bit much? I already have so much!” I exclaimed, a mix of surprise and joy on my face. She laughed softly, saying, “Nothing is too much for you, my princess. Come on, try it on! Our church members and family will be arriving soon.” It was a moment filled with love and happiness, a memory I will cherish forever.
