When Jessica told me all about the opportunity that had come knocking, I had instantly become her number one supporter. A small online magazine wanted her fiction. Up to five thousand words. I was so proud, it was crazy. Jessica was finally ready to take that step, and I wanted to do something special for her. Not flowers. Not chocolate or something like that. I wanted to give her something that would help inspire her while she did something she already loved. The idea had come to me while I was folding towels at the gym. Her apartment. The small space near the balcony she used as a dumping ground for bags and shoes. The corner that got the best light in the whole place.
