CHAPTER 3
~DAISY’S POINT OF VIEW~
My mouth opened but no sound came out.
My wolf snarled so loud I felt it rattling my ribs claws itching to tear out my skin after what our mate just told us.
Nicholas let the test kit slip from his hands. “Look, b-baby,” he started, and I instinctively took two steps backward, backing away from him.
He just said he doesn't want the baby, which is quite surprising and scary at the same time.
On our wedding night, I brought up the topic of how many pups he’d want to have four kids.
I wanted three, that resulted in a funny argument, and after that, we talked about family planning, but he dismissed it, saying he didn’t give a f**k about that. He said, “I’m your husband,I’ll f**k whenever I want, and if a baby comes, we’ll parent it.”
It’s been one whole year. Being a housewife is ridiculously tiring and lonely. Though I’m not a full-time housewife, I work remotely from home.
I conduct some sessions for some human students online and get paid for it, but that only happens for two hours in twenty-four. I still hope to have a kid.
The last time I read Mom's diary, she wrote that kids keep women busy, extremely busy, in her words.
And I wished for that,I have nothing to keep me busy.
Kiesha is usually not here, she works far away from us, and Nicholas is always at work. He always has one or two projects to wrap up or process.
I have just some games and television to occupy me. I quit social media a year ago after leaving the pack.
Not because I wanted to, but because I knew I’d see something I didn’t want to see…
Perhaps I’d wake up to news of Alpha De-Shawn having his third, fourth, fifth, or sixth kid. I don't know, but I don’t want to hear any news regarding him.
I also quit watching the news or reading any political articles, so home is boring.
And now Nicholas says he doesn’t…
“This isn’t the right time for a pup.” Those words rolled out of his mouth, and felt my chest tighten “you know what a pup would do to us,you of all people know how many projects I have running right now. I do not have the time or resources for a pup in a foreign country right now.”
My eyes went wide instantly. “What was that supposed to mean?”
“Look, Daisy, let’s not argue tonight. We can’t have a pup right now. The revenue from my recent projects is targeted strictly toward my new division plans overseas. There’s been a lot happening here, so a pup right now is a no for me,” he explained.
I scoffed. “This isn't an excuse for not wanting to have a baby, Nicholas. It's…”
“It’s what?” He cut me off harshly “It’s what? I just said that I am not financially buoyant enough for that right now, and you say it’s not enough reason? I get it.” He let out a mischievous chuckle. “You want me to father a child and raise it on your own money?”
“Is that what you plan to do? So you’ll be both the mother and the father of the child at the same time?”
“And then you run the s**t around here and not me”
“Nicholas, come on.” I couldn’t hide the disgust plastered on my face. It’s ridiculous that he’s talking about money when all his companies started with my funds!
“What’s wrong with you?” My voice softened as I walked closer to him. “Don’t think that way. We’re in this together. You just have to be my husband and be the father to my children…that’s all.”
“You are my wife, and you’re my responsibility, Daisy,” he snapped, making me flinch back. “I will provide to raise whatever pups we plan to have. On my money. On my f*****g money. The sooner I’m able to get loans, endorsements, and partnerships, the sooner I will be able to support our eventual family.”
“On my money, Daisy. On my f*****g money and not yours!”
The words rang in my head multiple times. He stepped closer to me. “I’m the man here,” he declared, jabbing a finger at his own chest. “I decide when we’re ready for a family, and now is not the right time, Daisy.”
I just stared at him, lips parted in surprise, stomach twisting in agony.
But the next minute, when he saw the fear on my face and how I had stepped back from him, he switched instantly. His shoulders dropped, and his eyes softened.
“D-d-Daisy…baby…no, no, no… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…” He reached for me quickly, gentle this time. “I’m sorry, okay? I-I didn’t mean to raise my voice. I wasn’t supposed to talk to you like that.”
His hands slid to my upper arms, holding me possessively.
“I want the best for us,” he whispered. “I want the same thing you want, I swear. We will have a baby. Just…give me time. Please, we can’t have the baby right now.”
For a moment, I didn’t speak. I just felt my heartbeat steadying itself again, easing up with each beat.
“What’s the investment?” I asked quietly. “The one you’re waiting on. How much is it?”
Totally caught off guard he questioned, “Why? Why do you need the budget figure?”
“I—”
“So you can give me the money again and make it seem like you run the house?” he snapped arrogantly. “ You want to be the Alpha of the family isn't it?”
He raised his gaze to me and chuckled bitterly.” I guess you think a rogue boy could never head a family huh?”
I gasped. “Nico, no. No No.That's not it.” I shook my head violently. “I just want to help our family.”
“If you want to help the family, then do as I say, Daisy. Abort the pup,” he announced, and I felt my heart sink at once.
I couldn’t believe he just told me to abort our bundle of joy.
My ribs cinched and I couldn't pull in a full breath.
I stared at my hands, trembling as I picked up the test from the floor.
For a few seconds, he didn't say a word, he just watched as I stared down at the test kit results.
“Daisy, we need to abort it,” his cold voice sent shivers down my spine. “I do not want any pup right now. Besides, we’re still very young for that. When I need one, I will tell you, and we will make as many as we want.”
I almost let out a scoff. He couldn’t be serious, right?
My wolf lunged so hard against my ribs,I tasted blood on my tongue; she wanted to lung at our mate.
My hand instinctively cradled my stomach, and I shook my head. “I’m sorry, baby. I can't abort it. We need to keep our pup.”
Silence followed. His eyes fixed on me, digging into my skin, so I shifted my gaze to the floor—I was a little anxious about what he’d say next.
“Fine,” he whispered, and my face lit up immediately.
“Go on and keep it, Daisy. You want to run the family and make decisions, huh? Keep it and raise it alone. I am not part of that journey with you. I won't father a child when I don't want to. I might be a rogue but I have a say in my own family! I will father a child when I'm ready and have built my own pack!”
Immediately, my face fell into a mixture of shock and despair.
Something behind my ribs snapped clean in half,I waited for the pain but only cold rushed in. But he doesn't care. He walked off and started to rush up the stairs.
My bare feet slapped the stairs so fast I almost pitched forward. Thankfully I caught the banister to keep me from falling. I raced after him, and the first place he entered was our matrimonial bedroom.
He bolted to his wardrobe immediately, dragging out his box. He pushed it to the door, and next he grabbed a traveling bag and started stuffing his clothes into it very fast.
Like someone was chasing him or he was about to miss a flight.
“What are you doing?” I asked curiously, and he turned to me harshly. “Of course, I’m leaving the house for you and your newfound husband.”
“W-what?” I gasped, totally in disbelief. “Nicholas…”
“What?” he barked back at me. “You now make the decisions because you bring in more money, so now I'm leaving you to your house alone. Have everything and live a happy life. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted? Isn't that what everybody has always whispered and told you to do?Now I’m giving it to you, Daisy Mae Carter.”
“If you want me to stay, choose between me and the pup in your stomach.”
My hand reflexively moved to my stomach, caressing it protectively.
“I thought as much,” he chuckled coldly. “I see you’ve made your decision. Good luck, then.”
He refocused on packing his clothes, and what I thought was an act turned into a full-blown moment when Nicholas moved away with both boxes.
I couldn't let him go,I clawed at his sleeves like a child begging for a parent who already left.
“Please, Nicholas… do not do this. It’s our pup Please, let’s keep it…”
He didn’t look at me. He didn’t turn or flinch, not one bit. His eyes were cold, more than enough evidence to tell me that Nicholas was dead serious.
I pressed my hand to my chest like I could hold it together from shattering..
“Daisy, I gave you a choice to pick between me and the baby, and now you've made your choice. Let me go, dear.” His grip on his box tightened as he pulled away from my initial grasp.
“I will do it…” The world stopped once those words rolled off my tongue.
Nicholas paused in his steps.
My knees hit the hard floor..so hard the jolt shot up my spine,I heard myself say” I will do it baby”
“ I pick you, Nicholas. Yes, I picked you. Let's do it.”
‘I'm sorry little one, mommy wasn't strong enough’
