"SHE'S HERE!" Grace screams.

"Oooo..." Wendy and Tiffany beams.

"Tiff, do you want to cut the umbilical cord?" Grace asks with a soft voice.

"Hell yeah", she says. "Oh I mean, yeah sure".

I smile weakly at Tiffany and watch as she cuts my daughter's last connection to me via the placenta. Ethan should be the one doing that. He's the father and he didn't get to witness his own daughter's birth. And where is she born? In the house where her mother is held after being kidnapped, with help from her best friend. My daughter's life doesn't start off very well.

Chapter 1: Chemistry partner
Chapter 1 Abbi I walk through the school hallway towards my locker. Trying to push me through all the people who are standing in lumps, talking, laughing, fighting, all kinds of things. No one is willing to step aside a bit so I can get through. "Abbi!" Wendy Hall shouts after me. I stop in my moves to let my best friend catch up with me. We have another best friend as well. Grace Morgan. I’m not sure where she is right now though. "Hey, sexy," she says as she pulls me into a hug. I roll my eyes. This is the way girls talk to each other, not all of them but a lot. I'm not one of them though. "Sure," I say. "Stop saying that." "I'm not going to lie to you," Wendy says. We arrive at the lockers. "So you shouldn't say it", I say, opening my locker. "Stop being so insecure," Wendy says. "You've always been, enough, we are Juniors in High School, you have to start to understand that you're very pretty." I've always been unsure of myself, that's true. But I feel like I have a reason not to be, I mean Wendy has had many boyfriends who've come and gone, I've had one; Mark. But it didn't work out because of a lot of reasons, and because of him, I find it hard to trust a guy again. "Easy for you to say who looks like a model," I hiss. "You don't have to be insecure." "Abbi you are ..." "No, stop, I'm not gonna listen," I say and put my hands over my ears. "La la la la, I can't hear." Wendy takes a hold of my arms, pulling them down, looking me into my eyes. "Abigail," she says. "Stop it, you know how much it hurts to see you like this? First, you are already insecure and then Mark comes along and does that to you, and you are destroyed, please, you are beautiful." I close my locker and hug Wendy. How would I manage without her or Grace? I start laughing. Wendy still looks grumpy, but she has to resist the urge to start laughing. But she fails and she starts laughing too. ”Come on, we have chemistry," she says through her laughter and we start walking towards the classroom. But when we walk up the stairs someone stands in the way. I look up at the tall, angry guy. Gale. "What do you want?" Wendy asks coldly. "Talk to Abbi," he says. "And if I don't want to talk to you?" I hiss. "You don't seem to get that? I don't want anything to do with you, go away." I drag Wendy with me past him. I tremble with anger. Wendy puts an arm around my shoulders. "There, you told him that you don't want anything to do with him, that's the most important thing," she comforts. "At some point, he will get it, but as stupid as he is, maybe it will take a while." "I hope he gets it soon," I mutter. "Even though he's thick-headed". We arrive in the classroom. We sit and wait for the teacher, while the classroom is filled. Our chemistry teacher arrives. Mr. Snow. "Okay class, today you will work in pairs," he says. "But you can't work with the person next to you, you're sitting with your buddies and you'll get nothing done, so I've divided you into pairs, and you will be in these pairs in each group work." Most of the class groans and I'm one of them. I don't want to work with anyone other than Wendy since Grace doesn't have this class with us. "Wendy works with Simon. Emelie and Daphne. Ethan and Abigail." What did he say? Ethan and Abigail. I keep myself from starting to scream. When everyone has been paired up, Wendy says bye and walks to sit with Simon, and a few seconds after, a boy with dirty blond hair, and ocean blue and bright eyes comes and sits down beside me. He has a strong upper body and looks good. Ethan Scott. "Can I sit here?" He asks kindly. "Well you have no choice," I reply uninterested, even though I'm very interested. He laughs. "Yes that's true," he says and I think I see a pink undertone on his cheeks as he sits down. We begin with the work and I can't help staring at him sometimes when he doesn't see me do it. When Ethan takes off his leather jacket, I see that he only has a t-shirt that is licked against his body, forming after his muscles and then I see his arms. Oh, his arms. His strong beautiful arms. I spill some iodine on the table but don't notice until Ethan reacts. "Abigail, careful," he laughs. "Oops," I say. I take the cloth and dry up the iodine but Ethan takes the cloth from me. "Let me," he says, looking into my eyes. I look back a few seconds before I turn away from my eyes. "Okay," I say. I feel myself begin to blush. I have to stop blushing, I will look like an i***t. I can't let myself look like an i***t. It tingles in my stomach when I look at Ethan. Why is that? I have never felt that before. I don't know what this means. But it may be about feelings or something, maybe I have a crush on him. I hope I don't.
