Chapter two: I reject you

2000 Words
The night pulsed with energy, laughter, and music spilling into the air as the thumping beat resonated through the mansion. People's chatter mingled with the night, creating an electric atmosphere. Casey stood in a corner, watching her best friend Mason Jesse, daughter of a state minister and alpha of a werewolf pack, blow out the candles on her birthday cake. Casey's eyes shone with love and happiness for her friend. Jesse stood at the center of the cheering crowd, her mate by her side, both wearing bright, loving smiles. Casey couldn't help but feel a pang of envy; Jesse had found her mate at a young age, while Casey remained mateless. Born with a curse, Casey's wolf was weak, unable to sense her mate unless he was close. She hoped her mate would find her soon and break the curse. Little did she know, this night would only get more complicated. Just then, someone collided with Casey, spilling wine on her. "Oh, sorry, I didn't see you," the person said. Casey looked up to see her sister Ava, a mischievous glint in her eye. "You did that on purpose, Ava," Casey accused, her voice firm. Ava smirked. "What if I did? Want to shout out to the crowd and see who gets their support?" The arrogance in her voice was unmistakable. Casey knew better than to try; nobody would support her, not even her own mother. Casey excused herself and headed to the restroom. As she turned to leave, a prestigious guest entered the hall, and the crowd erupted in cheers. He was the alpha of Moonshadow Pack, Caspian Morgan the most revered alpha in the land, and the most influential man in Saint-Tropez, France. As he entered all eyes turned to him, the room fell silent, mesmerized by his commanding presence. Casey's gaze was drawn to him as well, and she felt a shiver run down her spine, a voice was whispering to her 'He is here’ but the voice was so low and faint that it felt like an imagination, Casey looked around but couldn't find anybody beside her 'where was the voice coming from’ she asked herself, Her attention returned to the mysterious stranger, who dominated the banquet hall with his commanding presence. He stood tall, his figure dominating the banquet, his broad shoulders squared, and his piercing dark blue eyes scanned the room. His chiseled features were set in a stern expression as if it was carved from granite, giving him an air of authority and power. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his sharp jawline was accentuated by a hint of stubble and pride. But what struck Casey most was the aura of coldness that surrounded him. It was as if he had built an impenetrable wall around himself, He was so unapproachable keeping everyone at arm's length. His eyes seemed to bore into those he looked at, as if sizing them up and finding them wanting. His eyes were so deep that it sank the crowd in at a glance. Despite the intimidating aura, Casey couldn't help but feel drawn to him, there was something familiar about him but she couldn't figure it out, it felt like they had met before but this was her first time seeing him. There was something about his handsome, angular face that seemed to captivate her. She felt a flutter in her chest as their eyes met, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. Then, he looked away, his gaze sweeping the room once more. Casey felt a pang of disappointment, but she couldn't help but wonder who this enigmatic man was, and what had brought him to Mason's birthday party. The whispery voice spoke once more, 'Mine' then Casey realized it was her wolf. Then everything became clear when she smelled a faint smell of lavender then felt a shadow towering over her, looking up at the astonishing stranger. His eyes bored into her capturing her into it and making her immobile his eyes sparkled like stars on a clear night, drawing her into the depth which are as deep as the ocean, then everything became clear when she heard the whisper once again 'He is our mate’ Casey's wolf, dormant for so long, finally stirred at the sight of her mate. Casey then felt the power of a mate, a surge of hope and excitement coursed through her veins as she realized the truth that only her mate could lift the curse on her soul. “You're my mate," Casey said, her voice barely above a whisper. The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on the stranger. “I know” he said curtly, his expression unreasonable. “So….” Casey trailed off, unsure how to respond, her heart sank. This is not the kind of expression she was expecting, she was expecting a more enthusiastic response but he was just cold and indifferent. “So what?” He asked, raising an eyebrow and his voice dripping with indifference. Casey's cheeks burned with embarrassment “Since you are my mate, I thought we should….. discuss further.” He turned away, his voice cold, detached and final "No need for discussion, I reject you.” Casey felt like she'd been punched in the gut. Her heart shattered into a million pieces as she struggled to comprehend the stranger's words, the pain in her heart was to severe that it like someone was crushing her heart, she had never felt such physical pain before even when she was almost beaten to death by her father, the was so much that she started feeling dizzy and stumbled backwards. Why would he reject her? As a powerful alpha, he could sense the weakness of another wolf. Casey's cursed wolf, dormant for so long, was no match for his strength. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she realized the harsh truth: she wasn't worthy of this stranger, her mate. Caspian Morgan also felt a tiny bit of heartache and his wolf was so angry that he almost lost control but as a powerful alpha he was very good at controlling his wolf "why did you reject our mate?" his wolf asked but he didn't give a reply, as a powerful and revered alpha he knew the consequences of having a weak mate. With the numbers of enemies he has he didn't need a weak mate who couldn't help him but only be a burden to him. So he left the party hall without taking a second glance at her because losing control of his wolf in front of a crowd would be too much to deal with. The room seemed to spin around Casey, and she staggered as she tried to walk, desperate to escape the stranger's rejection. But his words echoed in her mind, a constant reminder of her inadequacy. Nobody could accept rejection and embarrassment, so in her case, she was emotionally damaged. “Nobody wants a cursed Luna,” said Ava mockingly from behind Casey. Casey was so ashamed to lift her head. People were whispering loudly, and she wished she could just sink into the floor. Amidst the insults and curses she ran away with the remaining strength she had crying out loudly, she just couldn't take it anymore. She couldn't hide her pain so she ran out of the mansion as fast as her leg could carry her into the woods. As she ran deeper into the woods, the trees seemed to close in around her, casting long, ominous shadows on the ground. Casey's heart pounded in her chest, and her legs ached from the exertion, but she couldn't stop. She had to escape the humiliation, the pain, and the mocking words that still echoed in her mind. "Nobody wants a cursed Luna," Ava's voice taunted her, fueling her tears and her desperation. Casey's wolf, sensing her distress, stirred within her, whining softly. But even the comfort of her wolf's presence couldn't calm the storm raging inside her. Her already weak wolf after being dormant for so long couldn't console her for long before she lost the power to communicate and connect with her, then again her wolf fell back into deep slumber. In her wolf's case the pain was more severe, also as a weak wolf with no power to relieve her pain she could only whimper lowly before she went back to her deep sleep 'Who knows how long she was gonna sleep this time' Now with no one left to console her she kept running to forget the humiliation. As she ran, she got weaker, her pain more severe, the woods grew denser, the underbrush thicker. Casey's feet stumbled over roots and rocks, but she kept going, driven by her anguish, suppressing her pain and heart throb. Finally, exhausted and spent, she collapsed against the trunk of a massive oak tree. Her body shook with sobs, and her mind replayed the rejection, the shame, and the humiliation. Her whole body ached so much and head spined, the pain was so much and her breathing became heavy, it felt like she was going to die anytime soon. "Please moon goddess let me just die soon so that this pain can end. I can't cope with this world cruelty again" she shouted loudly, gazing into the clear sky which was adorned by the half moon and the tiny stars. Why had her mate rejected her? What was wrong with her? Was she truly cursed, unworthy of love and acceptance? As the darkness closed in around her, Casey let out a loud shout , her loud cry echoing through the woods, a haunting lament of sorrow and heartbreak. As she slumped against the tree, her body trembling with silent sobs, Casey felt the weight of her shattered hopes crushing her. She had endured the cruelty and neglect of her past, always holding onto the promise of a better future with her mate. She thought of all the times she had been belittled, ridiculed and rejected by her pack, and how she had always consoled herself with the thought that her mate would love and accept her for who she was. But now, even that had been taken away from her. Casey's mind replayed the rejection, the words of her mate still echoing in her mind. "I reject you." The phrase cut through her like a knife, leaving her bleeding and vulnerable, the more she remembered the word the heavier her pain before and she could barely hold up her head. The silence around her was oppressive, punctuated only by the occasional rustling of leaves in the wind. Casey felt like she was the only person in the world, abandoned and forsaken by everyone. Casey's eyes grew dry, her tears exhausted, but her heart continued to ache. She felt lost and alone, like a small boat adrift in a stormy sea. She had no anchor, no compass, no direction. She was at the mercy of the waves, tossed about by the cruel whims of fate. As the darkness deepened around her, Casey's thoughts grew more desolate. She wondered if she would ever find happiness, or if she was doomed to suffer alone forever. The rejection by her mate had opened up old wounds, and she felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair. Soon she lost the strength to even wonder about her life as she started losing her consciousness slowly. Just as she thought she couldn't sink any lower, Casey heard the sound of footsteps approaching. She tensed, her heart racing, wondering who it could be. Has someone come to mock her, to rub salt in her wounds? Or was it someone who might offer her a glimmer of hope? but she could not even turn her head to look at the direction of the footsteps. As the person got closer she couldn't stay awake again so she fainted before she could see who it was
