Chapter One: Birthday party
The sun shone brightly on her sleeping face, outlining her delicate features and accentuating her beauty as she yawned, stirring from a peaceful slumber.
As she slowly opened her eyes, the warm rays of the sun danced across her room, illuminating the beautiful surroundings that she had gotten used to for the past few days. Casey stretched, feeling the softness of the bed and the comfort of the cozy and glamorous resort on the outskirts of Aethon pack. It was a peaceful, serene life, one that she had never experienced before in her entire existence.
She lingered in the haze of sleep, reluctant to let go of the peacefulness that had enveloped her. This was the most serene period of her life, a far cry from the tumultuous childhood she had endured. Growing up had been a struggle, with challenges and hardships that had tested her resilience. But now, as she prepared to celebrate her friend Jesse's birthday, she felt a sense of belonging and joy. Jesse's father, the wealthy and influential owner of Raven's Peak, a luxurious resort in the picturesque town of Saint-Tropez, and the alpha of Aethon pack one of the powerful packs had spared no expense in ensuring that his daughter's birthday would be an unforgettable affair.
As she slowly drifted back to reality, Casey's thoughts turned to her childhood. She had grown up in an environment where nobody cares if she survived or not, a place where nobody acknowledge her existence. Her parents never treat her right, and her siblings also don't want her. But despite the difficulties she had faced, Casey had always been a fighter. She had worked hard to create a better life for herself, and now, as she approached adulthood, she felt like retiring and just wait for her mate.
Casey's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of birds chirping outside her window. She smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude for this peaceful life she was experiencing. She had been staying in Raven's Peak for a few days now preparing for Jesse's birthday party, and it had quickly become her haven. The resort was more welcoming, with a strong sense of security than her real home.
As she carefully got out of bed, Casey's thoughts turned to the party preparations. She had promised Jesse that she would help with the decorations and make sure everything was perfect for the big day. With a spring in her step, Casey headed to the bathroom to start getting ready.
She checked through her luggage, searching for the gown she had carefully prepared for the party. But before she could find it, someone entered her room without knocking. "Are you looking for this?" Ava, her younger sister, asked, holding up the dress. "Yes, how did you get that?" Casey asked, surprised. Ava smiled mischievously. "I got it from your box, sis. A friend of mine doesn't have an outfit for the party, so I'm borrowing yours." Casey's eyes widened in dismay. "You can't borrow my dress, Ava! I'm wearing it to the party." Ava shrugged, unconcerned. "It's just a piece of cloth, Casey. You can wear something else. It's not like you love this style. Just wear one of your jean trousers." Before Casey could protest further, Ava turned and walked away, the dress still clutched in her hands.
Casey sighed, feeling frustrated and annoyed. She had been looking forward to wearing that dress all week, and now Ava had taken it without even asking. She thought about going after Ava and demanding that she return it, but she decided against it. Instead, she began to rummage through her closet, searching for something else to wear. As she browsed through her clothes, Casey's mind kept wandering back to the dress. She had felt so beautiful and confident when she tried it on, and now Ava had ruined everything.
She had never been to a party before, and she had been determined to make her first time unforgettable. But now, with Ava taking her dress, everything seemed to have fallen apart. She would have to settle for dressing normally, like it was just another day, and not the special occasion she had been looking forward to. Casey's heart sank as she thought about Jesse's birthday party. She had promised her friend that she would look outstanding, and now she felt like she would be showing up in her everyday clothes. The thought of hurting Jesse's feelings made her stomach twist with anxiety. And to make matters worse, Casey couldn't help but wonder why Jesse had invited Ava to the party in the first place. Ava was always getting into trouble, and Casey had a feeling that her sister's presence would only cause problems.
As Casey continued to worry about the party, she heard a knock at the door. It was Emily, Jesse's best friend and one of the party organizers. "Hey, Casey! I was just checking in to see if you're ready for the party," Emily said, beaming with excitement. Casey hesitated, unsure of how to break the news about her dress. But before she could say anything, Emily's eyes landed on Casey's outfit, and her expression fell. "Oh no, Casey! What happened to your dress? You were going to wear that beautiful gown, weren't you?"
Casey was dumbfounded, unsure of how to respond to Emily's question. She had shown them her outfit and they had all loved it, but now it was gone. "Ava, why must you always cause trouble for me?" she muttered under her breath. Emily's eyes widened in surprise. "What happened to the dress, Casey? You were so excited to wear it." Casey sighed, feeling frustrated. "My sister loved the gown, so she took it. There's nothing I can do about it. She's a spoiled princess, so she gets whatever she wants." Emily's expression turned sympathetic, and she turned to Jesse. "Jesh, how are we going to fix this? Come on, let's go find a dress for Casey."
Jesse nodded, and the two of them set off to find a new dress for Casey. As they walked, Emily chatted excitedly about the party, trying to distract Casey from her dress woes. But Casey's mind kept wandering back to Ava and her spoiled behavior. Why did her sister always have to cause trouble for her? And why did their parents always let her get away with it? Casey sighed, feeling a familiar sense of frustration and resentment. But as they approached the town's boutique district, Casey's spirits began to lift. Maybe, just maybe, they would find an even more beautiful dress than the one Ava had taken.
After visiting several boutiques, they finally found a beautiful dress that fit Casey perfectly. It was a stunning red gown with intricate lace details, and Casey felt like a princess when she put it on. Emily and Jesse oohed and ahhed over the dress, and Casey couldn't help but feel a little better about the whole situation.
But just as they were about to leave the boutique, Casey's phone buzzed with a text from Ava. "Hey, sis. Just wanted to let you know that I'm wearing your dress to the party. You can't be mad at me, I look amazing in it!" Casey's eyes narrowed as she read the text. Ava was really pushing her buttons now.
Casey left Ava's message unreplied, not wanting to engage with her sister's provocative behavior. Instead, she focused on the kindness of Jesse, who was paying for the beautiful red gown that Casey had fallen in love with. Jesse, as the heir of the Aethon Pack, was always busy running the pack's affairs with her father, and Casey cherished the rare moments they spent together. Emily, on the other hand, was a different story. As a party enthusiast, Emily's carefree nature clashed with Casey's more reserved personality. Moreover, Emily's familiarity with Ava made Casey wary, as she had learned to be cautious around people who were close to her troublesome sister. Nobody who was close to Ava was trustworthy, in Casey's opinion.
After returning to the resort, Emily took charge of getting Casey ready for the party. She carefully dressed Casey in the stunning red gown, expertly applying various makeup techniques to enhance Casey's natural beauty. Casey, who was not accustomed to wearing makeup, initially resisted Emily's efforts, but Emily insisted that she needed to look her absolute best for Jesse's birthday celebration. Jesse, who was sitting nearby, watching the transformation, nodded in agreement. "You have to look beautiful tonight, Casey," Jesse said, smiling. "It's my birthday, and I want all my friends to shine." Emily smiled, satisfied with her handiwork. "There, you look stunning, Casey. Jesse, doesn't she look amazing?" Jesse's eyes widened in admiration as she took in Casey's transformed appearance.
Casey blushed, feeling a little self-conscious about all the attention. She wasn't used to being the center of attention, and all the fuss was making her a bit uncomfortable. But as she looked at Jesse, who was beaming with happiness, Casey's doubts began to fade. She realized that this was Jesse's special night, and she wanted to make it unforgettable for her friend. Taking a deep breath, Casey smiled, feeling a newfound confidence. "Let's do this," she said, her voice steady. Emily cheered, and Jesse grinned, satisfied that Casey was finally ready to party.
After ensuring that Casey looked stunning, Emily and Jesse finally let her go so they could get ready themselves. It was almost party time, and they couldn't afford to be late. Jesse, in particular, had been careful not to dress up too early, wanting to avoid ruining her makeup or getting her dress sweaty. But with the banquet time approaching, she knew she had to get ready. She slipped into her own dress, a beautiful silver gown that sparkled in the light. Emily, her best friend, was already dressed and waiting for her, looking lovely in a blue dress that complemented Jesse's outfit perfectly. The two friends exchanged a smile, excited for the night ahead.
With their dresses on and their hair styled, Jesse and Emily made their way to the banquet hall. The room was already filled with guests, all of whom were chatting and laughing. Casey was looking a bit out of place but still stunning in her red dress. Jesse smiled, feeling happy that her friend was there to celebrate with her. She made her way over to Casey, with Emily following close behind. "Hey, you look amazing!" Jesse exclaimed, giving Casey a hug. Casey smiled, looking a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Jesse. You look pretty great yourself."
As the night wore on, Jesse's mate, a tall and handsome man, approached their group, greeting them warmly. He then led Jesse to the center of the banquet hall, where they were surrounded by other guests. Emily, taking the opportunity to mingle, excused herself to greet her friends. Casey, now left alone in the corner, felt her mood begin to dull. As a cursed wolf, she often struggled to connect with others, and it seemed that tonight was no exception. At times like these, she felt like an outcast. But then she thought of Jesse, the one person who had accepted her for who she was, cursed and all. She felt a surge of gratitude towards the moon goddess, who had brought Jesse into her life. And although she and Emily weren't exactly friends, Casey appreciated the fact that Emily at least treated her with kindness.
As Casey stood there, lost in thought, she noticed Ava across the room, laughing and chatting with a group of people. Why did Ava get to have all the fun and attention, while Casey was left standing alone in the corner? But then she remembered Jesse's words, about how she was special and deserving of love and friendship. Casey took a deep breath, letting Jesse's words wash over her. She didn't need Ava's approval or acceptance. She had Jesse, and that was all that mattered.
