Small towns have a special talent for spreading news.
By the next morning, Mara already knew Allyah had been spending time with Luke again.
“You are absolutely not falling for him again,” Mara declared dramatically as they walked through the town market.
Allyah groaned.
“I’m not.”
“That’s exactly what you said the first time.”
Vendors called out cheerfully as they passed by fruit stalls and small food stands. The smell of grilled corn and fresh mangoes filled the air.
Allyah sighed.
“I just want to understand what’s happening.”
Mara raised an eyebrow. “You mean the *magical talking stars* situation?”
“Yes.”
“And the *handsome boy you used to be in love with* situation?”
“…Also yes.”
Mara smirked. “Dangerous combination.”
That night, Allyah stepped outside her house.
The air was cool and quiet.
Above her, the stars glittered brightly across the sky.
She crossed her arms and looked up.
“Okay,” she said to the sky. “If you’re real… tell me something useful.”
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then—
"Trust him."
Her heart skipped.
Footsteps sounded behind her.
“Talking to the stars again?”
Luke’s voice.
She turned around.
“What are you doing here?”
He shrugged.
“I had a feeling you might be outside.”
Allyah stared at him.
“You heard it too, didn’t you?”
Luke nodded.
“Yeah.”
They both looked up at the sky.
Thousands of stars shimmered above them.
“So…” Luke said softly. “What did they say to you?”
Allyah hesitated.
Then she admitted quietly—
“Trust him.”
Luke smiled faintly.
“Well… that’s convenient.”
She laughed despite herself.
“Don’t get too confident.”
But as they stood there together beneath the glowing sky, Allyah felt something strange inside her chest.
Hope.
And somewhere far above them, the stars shimmered gently… as if they were watching their story unfold.
