Chapter 1
Anna
It was a cool sunday afternoon, when me and my best and only friend, Sheila, were shopping at the ground mall for the perfect outfits for the graduation ceremony. The day was fast approaching and anticipation filled the air with electric energy, we both were so excited so excited when it was just a meat high school graduation.
Sheila was the only person in high school who didn't treat me differently. She's always supported and protected me from anyone who tried to hurt me. Like this one tine she threatened an abnormally tall guy from bullying me. Ever since that day we became best friends and I couldn't imagine experiencing my first milestone without her.
with her fiery red hair cascading down her shoulders and eyes that shimmered with determination, Sheila and I went from boutique to boutique looking for the perfect dress or suit and shoes that would fit us. Getting captivated by the the bustling lights of the city where towering buildings kissed the sky, streets that buzzed with life, lost in the moment, lost track of time and it was passed my curfew. I began to panic rushing to the side of the road, booked a cab, waved sheila goodbye and shut the door.
My stomach turned at the thought of what my father's aggressive way of discipline, thinking of the horrible thing he might do to me. My curfew was a constant source of tension between me and my father who believed that a respectable young lady should be home before sunset. My father, Mr. Thompson, was a short tempered and aggressive man who had a. hard time controlling his anger.
Shaking with fear as I walked into the gates of my father's house, moved closer to the door, thankfully it wasn't locked, I opened the it slowly and gently to the sight of my father sitting in the small living room with his wife and son on the black leathered couch as if waiting for my arrival. Upon entering the house, my footsteps on the shined wooden fall seemed to create attention towards me when they all looked in my direction and I met my father's terrifying gaze. With bitterness in the tone of his voice “ Anna, you're late" he said, not allowing me to explain myself, he asked “ where are you coming from?" My father bellowed, his voice with anger “ how many times have I warned you about this, I will not tolerate such disobedience," all of a sudden my voice got low and I felt like I turned mute because of the fear I had towards my father. trying to master the courage to talk back “father, I'm so sorry I lost track of time l, please forgive me, I.....I was..," but my voice died along the way and I think this infuriated him even more so he began to shut at the top of his lungs uttering the most hurtful insults. My father's face twisted with rage “ apologies won't change anything Anna, you've crossed the line and I cannot allow such intolerable behavior under my roof. pack your bags and leave." Tears welled up in my eyes, my heart sank and I couldn't believe my own father would be so hard with a such a heavy heart. After hearing this I begged “ let me stay please I have no where to go, it won't happen again I promise you just let me stay please l...," my voice broke when he tossed me and my bags out to the front porch and told me to leave and never comeback. My eyes in that moment where bloodshot red as I picked my bag and sat outside the garage gate waiting for dawn to break.
