*Zach’s POV*
The rest of the class was unbearably boring. The only entertainment was watching the tortured expressions of my classmates as the lectured droned boringly. Some were even asleep, much like the girl I met in the office who is apparently Ms. Thorn. She looked much less venomous when she slept.
*ring*
As soon as the bell rang all of the students in the class stand up and race out of the classroom. Even those students who were supposedly sleeping had woken up from the sound of the bell. I made my way through the hallways and toward the gym for my second period. When I got there I saw that the girl from the office was once again in a heated conversation with Coach Thorn. Then I put it together, Ms. Thorn and Coach Thorn, she was the coach’s daughter. It makes sense now, why else would she be so disrespectful to all of the teachers, especially Coach Thorn. I walk closer to their conversation but I can’t hear anything they say before the girl catches sight of me coming closer. With annoyance and hatred clear as day on her face she turns back to her father.
“Your new pet is here for you father. I assume you have no use for me now” She spats the words out venomously, before stomping off purposefully, as if she would rather drown in a volcano than spend one more second in that spot. I bet if looks could kill her father and I would both be dead, reincarnated and killed again.
“Haylee.” He calls after her sounding angry, annoyed, and exhausted all at the same time. She doesn’t even spare him a glance. She just keeps walking while flipping him off. Coach sighs and runs a hand down his face, as if he can wipe away weariness, before turning back to me.
“What can I help you with, son?” He questions all annoyance replaced with a suspiciously sunny disposition.
“I was just wondering how I would go about trying out for the football team. I thought you could help me out there, coach.”
“There’s no need for you to try out boy. I have already watched you play so you have a guaranteed position as our new quarterback.”
I don’t respond to him at first. Just stare in disbelief, I mean I know I have some talent when it comes to football, but I never imagined getting a guaranteed spot as a quarterback. Especially for the best high school football team in the state.
“Thank you, sir. That means an awful lot especially coming from you.” As soon as those words of gratitude leave my lips I hear a scoff coming from my left. I look over to see Haylee leaning against the wall, her arms crossed and one leg propped up on the wall behind her. She has a look of intense anger on her face, shocker. She glares at me, before directing the attention of her anger to her father. What did I do to make her hate me so much? I barely know her and I wouldn’t be surprised if she intended to kill me. I turn back to the coach to see a grimace displayed on his face as he looked towards Haylee. He turns back to me, noticing I’m now looking at him and not his daughter. He instantly puts a smile on his face and waves a hand towards his daughter.
“That’s just my daughter, Haylee. Don’t mind her, she doesn’t have the best people skills. Don’t worry though she becomes a sweetheart once you get to know her.” He looks towards Haylee and raises his voice slightly to make sure she can hear this, “Don’t you, darling?” He says so sweetly it’s almost threatening. I turn back to Haylee in order to gauge her reaction but her face stays full of hatred as she walks towards us.
“Of course,” She starts once she reaches us, “It’s not like I would ever do anything that could ever upset my loving father.” Every word she speaks drips sarcasm before she walks away fully heading into the locker room to get changes. Great she has gym too, I have a period of glares in store for myself.
“Well anyway, just go get changes into your football gear the team has practice during this period. Beware, some other people decide to join occasionally, as well.” I laugh in agreement to his warning and head to the locker rooms and put my football gear on.
