A Second Chance

Chapter 5

Ally was livid, but she remained calm as asked why that was the only solution. She knew Lauri and Evan were having trouble when they moved in. She knew neither of them were happy in the relationship, but why was getting back together because of the baby a good idea. Why couldn’t Evan still return to Chicago, and still be in the child’s life, but why couldn’t he be in a relationship with someone else? Ally had put her trust and love in Evan. She could see herself eventually making the move to Chicago and being with him. That suggestion and admission did not go over well.

His mother had just verbally eviscerated her for suggesting that maybe there was another solution to this. His mother dug into all of Ally’s insecurities and scoffed at that thought that Ally could be part of the solution. She would never be good enough for her son. She was just some trashy rebound hoping to dig her claws into him for a free ride. Evan said nothing to defend her. He did follow her out of the apartment and down the stairs to her porch, but it wasn’t to comfort her. She asked him why her idea was so awful and why and he made her feel like an i***t. He asked her what possessed her to even have that idea. She started to tell him it was because she loved him, but she cut herself off. She asked him if he didn’t see this or her as a viable future. He stood there in silence. His icy stare looking through her like she was a stranger. Just then one of her roommates stepped out onto the porch and grabbed her, pulling her into the house while the other stepped up to Evan and gave him a few choice words before retreating into the house as well. She waited for him to come to his senses and apologize. She waited for him to come to her to work this out. He never did.

She went through her house and packed up everything that was his or even just reminded her of him and threw it into a box. Josh took the box up Evan before he left. Evan gave Josh a small gift wrapped box to give her, but Josh told him to deliver the gift himself.
