Chapter 7

“He knows we are bringing in a consultant, but he doesn’t know it is you,” she admitted. “Ally I assure you that he garners no ill will towards you. He’s told me often about how he regrets how he left things. He knows how he treated you was unforgivable.” “I have a hard time believing that,” Ally responded. Josh took a job in Chicago five years ago and he and Jake did see Evan regularly. They said Evan would ask about her and say he hoped she was happy, but he never reached out even just to apologize. Break ups are always hard, but her break up with Evan was especially brutal. She had trusted him. She had believed him when he said she was beautiful. She believed him when he said he loved her. He knew about her past and her insecurities. She put her faith in him, and in return he threw her away. Could she work for a man that shattered her trust. “If he felt so badly, he’s known where to find me.” “Ally I know he regrets so much,” Coriene tried to explain. “I also know he is still trying to protect Kiana. She was only ten when her mom died and all this came out. Add to that the drama with Kyle and his wife, she’s had a rough few years.” Ally sighed “To be clear, if I do this, 1) If he or your mother condesend to me or make me feel like trash, I’m out 2) I will be very clear with your brother. This is business. I’m not here to mend my heart of interfere in his life. I will do what I am contracted to do and the leave. Please understand that none of this comes from a place of bitterness. I’ve wanted nothing for him other than happiness. However I gave him my trust, and he destroyed that. That makes for a complicated work environment without strong boundaries in place.”
