33 The night passed slowly in the backseat of the rented Taurus. Carl had to move further down the road he had first found, then made several left and right turns to assure himself he wouldn’t be discovered. It wasn’t the cold air that disrupted his sleep, but rather all the thoughts on plans that must be successfully carried out for him to attain the reward. He had crossed a small stream while finding this place to park. The water was welcomed to drink, to clean up the wound, and wash away the dust and sweat. Just as the sun peeked through the tall pines, he slid behind the wheel. The car started right away, the broken windows and bullet holes in the side and the trunk having no effect on the engine.
