Sipping again from his whiskey glass, he pretended interest in the droll conversation around the table. The woman at the bar, wearing a sequined green dress and black heels, her blonde hair brushing her shoulders, smiled at him again. She raised her brow and tipped her head in a gesture that invited him to speak to her. He was not new to the game. She spotted someone with money, and despite the obvious situation that he was at dinner with his wife and another couple, the woman promised something more exciting and enjoyable. He drained his glass, then excused himself from his guests.
“I need to make a quick phone call and visit the bar. I’ll return shortly.” He gave a disarming smile to Rose and the couple who sat across from him, then left the table.
