“How are you this morning my Eliza.” the woman asked just as I came into the room. She was smiling
at me and looking at me as though she was studying me. “I’m sorry I don’t recall giving you my name?” I said
to her questionably. “You didn’t have to dear. Come lets me and you grab some coffee.” she smiled, taking
my hand and leading me into the kitchen. I sat down at a small round table with a white hand made table
cloth over it. The Kitchen was small with the cabinets lining the walls, the table in the corner, and a beautiful
hutch on the far wall. “You have a beautiful home.” I told her looking around at everything. It reminded me a
little of Naomi’s house.
“My name is Adsila dear. It is cherokee for blossom” she told me proudly as she brought me my
coffee , grabbed a box from the hutch, and took the seat across from me. “Adsila what is going on?” I asked
frustrated. “I assume you heard me and my grandson this morning?” she asked. “You assume correct.” I told
her as I looked through the window. The wind blew through the it and through Adsila's hair, and that’s when I
smelt it. Why hadn’t I smelled her when I first came in? As if she was reading my mind she said, “I try to
mask my scent with different smells throughout the house to throw off someone’s nose. I have got use to
them and can smell others regardless, but it seems to work on the rest of them.” she smiled proud of herself.
“You mean your?” I started but couldn’t finish the words. What if I was wrong. “Eliza, I want to explain a few
things to you, answer questions you have probably had for sometime now, maybe help you a little.” Adsila
told me with a smile as she patted my hand.
She took the box that she had got from the hutch and placed it in front of her.She opened the lid and
pulled out handfuls of pictures, and then pushed the box to the side. She shuffled through them slowly
looking at each one of them. She handed me one, it was of an older man with a long brown beard. He was
tall probably around 6 foot, but had a slender build. You could see his beautiful Amber eyes, even in the
darkness of the picture. “That is my Atoh.” she said with a smile. “ He was an amazing man. He was
courageous and full of knowledge, he knew of our history all the way back to the beginning.” she explained
with a glint in her eye. You could tell she was remembering past times with Atohi. “He was the principal chief
of the tribe.” she informed me. I had no idea what that meant. “He is very handsome.” I smiled as I handed
the picture back to her. “Thank you dear, yes he was.” she agreed as she put the picture away.
Next she handed me a picture of a man and a pregnant woman. The man was tall, with tan skin,
brown hair, and beautiful brown eyes. Standing next to him was a beautiful woman. She had long silk curly
light blonde hair, white creamy skin with rosy pink cheeks, and beautiful blue eyes. She was a lot shorter
than the man, probably around 5”5. She had her hands on her belly and he was standing behind her with his
arms stretched around so he could place his hand on top of hers. She was the woman from my dream. My
mother! She could be my twin! I thought as I stared at the picture. You could tell how much they were in love
just from the picture. I smiled looking at how sweet they were. The way they were looking at her belly you ould tell they already loved their child very much. “They seem like they’re really in love.” I told her with a
smile and tears in my eyes. “Oh they were, and constantly talked about the child she was carrying. They
couldn’t wait to be parents. They knew she would be special. They use to say that a product of their love had
to be special because of how strong it was. The man's name was Joshua. He was our Alpha for a very long
time. He always thought of the tribe before he thought of himself. He took Isabelle as his mate when they
were only 14. We had never witnessed a mating at such a young age, but they were destined to be together.”
she explained with a smile.
When they were 20 years old Isabelle finally got pregnant with their first child. They had been trying
for a couple years, and Isabelle feared she was barren. I knew better though, I knew the child would come
when it was meant to. She had the most beautiful glow about her. Around the same time we were having
trouble with a tribe in South America. Their Alpha didn’t like the fact that we had a skinwalker that married a
human. Only they didn’t know the human that he married was a dreamwalker. They were your grandparents
Eliza.” she told me as she handed me another picture. It was a man a woman and a small child. I knew the
child was my mother by her light tendrils that fell over her face and her piercing blue eyes. The woman had
long silky dark brown hair, high cheekbones, and huge brown eyes. The man was huge, at least 6’7 with long
dark hair and tattoos that covered his arms as well as his face. I had a family. I actually came from
somewhere. I thought as tears started streaming down my face. “Oh dear this is too much for you all at
once.” Adsila told me with 324a concerned expression on her face. “No please go on.” I stuttered.
“One day Joshua decided to take Isabelle to New York. She had wanted to go their forever, and
Joshua said he wanted her to see it before she had her hands full with their child. He knew she would be a
little rambunctious one.” She told me with a slight laugh.” My stomach was starting to feel like it was in knots.
This was the story of why they had to leave me.I thought as I listened closely. “They left on a Friday and
were supposed to be back Tuesday. When they still weren’t back by Thursday we knew something had to be
wrong.Joshua would never leave the tribe alone for that long. Atohi sent two men up to New York to
investigate.” she continued with a sad look in her eyes. “They returned two days later with terrible news. The
tribe from South America had sent some of their Beta’s to hunt Isabelle and Joshua down in New York and
kill them. We didn’t understand why they would want to hurt them so bad. Although they were against your
grandfather why take it out on your mother. They knew nothing of what she could do, so why? We still don’t
know the answer to that question today.” she explained shaking her head with tears pricking at her eyes.
“There were still the one that was spying on us. Tom ordered two of our best fighters to kill him and send a
message to the other tribe that if any of them showed their faces around here again they would be killed on
sight. We haven't seen or heard from them since,I suspect because they believe they have killed all of the
mixed breeds.” she told me as she looked into my eyes. What would happen if this tribe found out about me! I
thought as I sat there listening to Adsila. “The men we had sent to New York had found out that before
Isabelle was killed she had delivered a beautiful healthy little girl. She had left her in a church making sure
she would be found, and that she would be safe. She left a note trying to explain vividly that she didn’t want
to leave you Eliza. Your mother wanted you more than anything in the world. She knew because of her gifts
you would be the most special one of a kind Hazewalker on earth.” she finished as she looked up at me. “What are you saying?” I asked Adsila with tears in my eyes, What was a Hazewalker I thought
seriously I thought I was a skinwalker. “All that I can say for now is that you are home Eliza.” she smiled with
a tear running down her cheek. “And your parents loved you more than anything, but done what they had to,
to keep you safe.” she explained. My foster mother Naomi had found out a little about me, and from the
genealogy test, and the phasing we knew I was a skinwalker, and most likely a dream walker, but what is a
Hazewalker?” I asked her confused more than ever. “ That is something for the moment I can not discuss
with you, but you will get all the answers you need I promise. We all have the instinct in us to find our way
back home when we are lost. This place is a part of us. We come from this soil, and are returned to it one
day. This land is ours to respect and to protect.” she explained with a serious tone in her voice. “I’m sorry
Adsila, I just need some time to let all this soak in.” I told her as I got up from the table. “Can I phase around
here during the day, and if so where do I go to run.” I asked her impatiently. It felt so weird to be around
others of my kind. I wasn’t even sure if I was using the correct terms for everything. “Of course my dear, just
go out the back door there, and just make sure you get out of sight before you phase.” she chuckled pointing
to the woods behind the house.
I reach the edge of the woods. I walked into the shadow of the trees. I found a widow maker, that had
finally rotted enough to fall over and decided that was were I was going to leave my clothes. I began to
undress, taking my time and enjoying the country air. I had never felt so comfortable. I was usually nervous
and edgy when I was getting ready to phase, but here I was totally comfortable. I finally had all of my clothes
off and began focusing on phasing. I could feel my skin, muscles, and bones begin to shift and take form. I
felt my silky fur growing on my body. It was no longer an uncomfortable feeling for me to phase, it was now
second nature to me, and I absolutely loved it.
I stretched my legs out and arched my back, getting the feel for my animal. I took off at a full sprint
deep into the woods. I could feel the wind on my face and the dirt under my paws. I was finally free. I must
have ran for a couple miles when I finally slowed for a walk. I jumped up into a tree and laid my head on my
paws and started thinking, What had I got myself into, and how was I going to figure out all everything I
needed to know. So now instead of a skinwalker or a dreamwalker I am a hazewalker, which confused me to
no end. She had said my mother had an ability so what was hers called. I knew one thing for sure ever group
of skinwalkers had an alpha and a village had a chief I need to find that person or persons and maybe they
could answer my questions. I decided to explore the town and meet some of the members of the tribe. In
doing so hopefully I would find out who the Alpha was. Adsila had told me her husband Atohi had been the
principal chief. After his death they obviously had appointed a new one. I had a lot to do and alot to figure out
so I quickly made my way back to the inn.
