I had drove for what seemed like days, but was actually hours, although it was many many hours. 10 to be exact. I had passed a sign an hour or so back that said Kentucky. I was happy to be in the country and away from the city life. The stars were so much brighter here, even the air smelled different. I couldn’t hold off any longer, I had to find somewhere I could phase so I could run and hunt for a few hours. It was dark and almost 3 in the morning so I should be okay. I pulled of to the side of the rode. I was in a densely wooded area which was perfect. I got out of the truck and took off all of my clothes praying no one went by. I locked my truck and stuck my keys on top of the rear wheel. I phased after only a few seconds and it felt so good. I stretched my legs and back and bounded into the woods at full speed. After I had hunted my prey and ran for a couple hours I ran back to the truck to get back on the road. I needed to find a hotel room to get some sleep. I was exhausted and didn’t want to risk falling asleep at the wheel. I drove for another few minutes and came to a sign that said Jalagihi Hills, Populations 1,257. Wow I’ll be lucky to find a hotel in this town! I thought as I continued driving. Another five minutes later and I came to a small but beautiful town. Everything was dark, and there was no traffic anywhere in sight. I seen a sign that said The Mason Inn. I was crossing my fingers there was someone inside who could help me. I was low on gas and couldn’t drive another mile. I pulled my truck over in front of the quaint little inn. It looked so welcoming. The porch light was on, their were rocking chairs and a swing on the porch, and there was a beautifully hand painted sign on the door that said The Mason Inn. I grabbed my overnight bag and locked my truck up as I made my way onto the porch. Beside the door was a small circular door bell. I rang it twice and waited. After a couple minutes the door creaked open. Peeking through a two inch slit in the door was a little old woman. She was so adorable with pink curlers in her white hair, and her red nightgown. She almost looked like Mrs. Claus, except for the big brown eyes and the long eyelashes they were peeking at me through She was very short even from my standards and I only stand at 5”7. “Can I help you.” her small voice asked through the door. “I’m so sorry to bother you at this late hour ma'am but I have been driving for a very long time and I can’t bare to hold my eyes open another minute. Could I please get a room for you. It would mean so much. I’m afraid I won’t make it to the next town without falling asleep.” I begged. “Oh my goodness child of course.” she said as she closed the door and removed the chain. She opened the door and showed me in. The place looked just like a house. It was so comfortable and inviting with the floral designs and hand crafted centiments laying about. “This place is beautiful.” I told her as I looked around. “Oh thank you dear, this has been my home for sometime now. My Tom built it with his own two hands.” she explained with a tear in her eye. I decided to change the subject not wanting to upset her, it was obvious that Tom wasn’t around anymore. “Thank You again for letting me get a room, I have been driving for close to 12 hours now, and I didn’t know how much further the next town was.” I explained to her. “Oh dear you have been driving for a while, well we are the only town within a hundred miles either direction, so it was a good thing you stopped.” she smiled at me. “Now here is your key, it goes to the house the rooms don’t have keys but do lock from the inside. I can assure you no one has ever had anything stolen here, its 25 a night you can pay as you go, or you can pay weekly.” she explained to me. “Here is 50 just in case.” I said handing her a 50 dollar bill. I took the key and she led me up the stairs and to my room. The room was beautiful and cozy. There was a handmade comforter on the bed and a fireplace in the corner, with a sitting chair at the window. “There are more covers towels, and washcloths in your closet. The bathroom is the first door on the right as you go out the door. Now I’ll leave you be and let you get some rest.” She explained with her adorable smile. She walked to the door and I could have swore I seen her sniffing the air, and then she smiled and walked on out. I pushed the ridiculous thought aside and started getting ready for bed. She hadn’t even asked for my name or anything when I came in. That was odd. I thought as my eyes drifted shut. That night I dreamt of running through the woods with several other mountain lions only they had tan colored coats, all except for one, his coat was tan and black, with the oddest pattern I had ever seen on a mountain lion. He stopped and looked me in the eye. It felt as if he could see straight into my soul. I could feel something pulling us together but I didn’t know what it was. I wanted so badly to be with him that my heart ached for the contact. We were standing nose to nose for what must have been at least five minutes. He took his head and rubbed it against the side of my neck before running off into the woods so fast that there was no way I could catch up to him. I sat straight up in bed. I was sweating and my heart was racing. Even between my legs was throbbing along with my heart beat. I had never had a dream like that before! I smiled as I grabbed my things and went to get in the shower, a cold shower at that. I had never been with a man, I had never had the urge or want to be with someone else. I had pleased myself a few times but not many. Usually when I got restless or sexually frustrated I phased and would run it off, but this walker had an effect on me that I couldn’t ignore if I wanted to. I had to find out who he was. I came out of the bathroom refreshed, with my hair dried and my ripped bootcut jeans, hollister shirt, and justin boots on. I probably overdone it with the whole country thing but I didn’t care. I felt at peace here, and I was happy for once. Ever since I arrived at this town I had felt at home, like I belonged here, and that was a foreign feeling to me. I had never felt like I belonged anywhere or with anyone. Suddenly standing in my room I was hit with a delicious smell. It was something I wanted to eat , it was more. It was a male walker. I had never smelt one before, but this one was pulling me toward him. Maybe it was the lion I met in my dream. I started down the stairs when I heard a man arguing with the little lady who ran the inn. “Grandma I don't believe you're thinking right letting her into the house. We don’t know her like we did her parents, she hasn’t grown up around here, and doesn’t have the same values as us.” he growled. “And not to mention her powers could draw negative attention to us if this gets out, hell she sticks out like a sore thumb. She was walking last night unknowingly and ran with me in the woods. She can’t control it.” “This will not get out. Who would ever say anything about who she is to anyone but our tribe?” she asked him angrily. She is one of us and I will not turn her away. Why are you really angry about this Kyle? She asked him with a laugh. “You feel it don’t you the mating pull. You feel it just like I knew you would?” she told him. Is that what this is. Is he my mate? I thought as I stood there eavesdropping. They must have heard me because they got quite quickly. “I got to go grandma, handle this.” he ordered her. “I am handling it Kyle, I may be old but I’m not senile. “ she scolded, and then I heard the door shut. I walked down the stairs wondering what had just happened, and what powers he was talking about.I heard the front door slam and a vehicle start up out front. Were these people skinwalkers, what powers did I have that were so dangerous, and did they know who my parents were. How could this man be my mate when he hated the thought of me even being here. Maybe I was wrong about him. I had so many questions. I wanted answers and one way or another I was going to get them.
