Chapter Fifteen
Darkness had settled in just as they approached Cody, and Luke flicked on his headlights and parked in the same spot across the street by the center of the town, just down from the sheriff’s office, keeping both eyes on the cruisers parked in front of the station.
He heard the ding of his cell phone and saw texts from Marcus, Suzanne, and an unknown blocked number, which he knew was his dad, with the kind of cryptic message he was familiar with. He stepped out of the car as Karen and Chloe were led into the station, cuffed like common criminals.
When his phone rang and he answered, he was met by his father’s deep voice.
“Tell me you have a handle on this,” Raymond said.
Yup, he had evidently followed along after his last call, his last message.
