Aria adjusted the strap of her worn handbag and hurried across the road. She had just finished another exhausting shift at the cafรฉ. Her feet ached, her stomach was empty, and all she wanted was to get home. She believed life was simple. Work hard. Stay away from trouble. Never trust rich men. That promise had kept her heart safe for years. As she reached the crossing, the sound of screeching tires echoed through the street. A black luxury car stopped just inches away from her. Her heart nearly stopped. "What is wrong with you?" she shouted, glaring at the tinted window. The driver's door opened. A tall man stepped out. His black suit fit him perfectly. His expensive watch shimmered beneath the city lights. His cold grey eyes locked onto hers without the slightest apology. "I'm sorry," he said calmly. His deep voice irritated her even more. "Sorry?" she scoffed. "You almost killed me!" Instead of arguing, he silently removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. Only then did she notice she was shivering from the rain. "I don't need your pity," she snapped, trying to hand it back. "You'll catch a cold." "I said I don't want it." He smiled. Not a warm smile. A dangerous one. "For someone who almost got hit by my car, you're surprisingly fearless." She rolled her eyes. "And for someone who almost killed me, you're surprisingly calm." For a brief moment, neither of them spoke. Something about him unsettled her. His confidence. His mysterious smile. The way he looked at her as though he already knew her. Then his phone rang. Without another word, he walked back to his car. Before getting inside, he glanced at her once more. "Our paths will cross again." She laughed. "No, they won't." The luxury car disappeared into the rain. She watched until its headlights vanished. She had no idea that the stranger she had just argued with was Adrian Knightโ€”the youngest billionaire CEO in the country. Nor did she know that by the end of the week, he would become her new boss. And the one person she would never be able to escape. To be continuedโ€ฆ โค๏ธŽ
