Andriy was fatally wounded on the Maidan and passed away the same day in hospital №17 in Kyiv. Olena Vlasenko, his wife, still has no idea what exactly happened.
Andriy left home at 8:30 pm. He hugged his wife, who was staying at home with a seven-month daughter, told her he loved her and went off to the Maidan. He did not belong to the members of the Maidan Self-Defence Force. Not only did he have no weapon—he had no protective gear either. “We thought if many people came out on the streets to protest no one would get hurt,” Olena says. That night she had had a foreboding. She gave him a small silver cross.
