Yosif Shilling came to the Maidan twice. The first time was on February 11, the second—on the 18 th, when the bloody m******e in Instytutska street began. He did not come alone—his brother Stepan came with him to fight.
Halyna Hrytsyk, the daughter of the hero of the Celestial Hundred, recalls that the bus to Kyiv was full. But her father didn't give up and was determined to go to the Maidan.
On February 20, coordinators standing on the stage were asking newcomers to organize themselves into hundreds. The brother recalled, “Three hundreds were created right away. Our hundred hadn't even chosen a commander when we ordered to go and defend a barricade.”
