“I received a phone call from a stranger. He said he’d found a telephone in the pocket of a dead protester and decided to call My love from his directory,” says the wife of the hero of the Celestial Hundred Maria Tkachuk. “I knew that Ihor’s friend Yurko was on the Maidan, so I called him and asked him to go and see if it was Ihor. He called back and said, “Yes, it’s him.” Tkachuk had visited the Maidan many times to take part in the protest actions. He kept it secret from his 82 year-old mother because he knew she wouldn't let him go. He came home for the last time on February 10—to celebrate his junior son's birthday.
