"That old traitor." Roland curses under his breath. "He didn't keep his promise." Roland said through grounded teeth, his breath seething.
"What do you say child?" The Queen asks suspiciously. "It was the cat again." Roland lied, scratching the back of his head nervously. "That same cat?" She asks suspiciously, tilting her head trying to fix the puzzle pieces into place.
"It's pretty talented for a cat isn't it?" She says. "Maybe we should adopt it?" The Queen said nursing the idea for a while before laughing out.
"Sorry about that darling. Maybe it's all just your hallucination. Eat your soup and get some sleep, I'll come get the bowl later " She said kissing his forehead and taking her leave.
Roland sighed looking out the window wondering just how long he'll have to keep the pretenses up.
[sigh], He sighs heavily taking in a deep breath but doesn't forget to drink the soup hi mother prepared for him as he knew that she put much much thought into it.
With one swift move, he gulps everything down leaving nothing behind. He wipes his mouth drifting slowly into sleep.
A dream coming in lulling him like a lullaby. He dreams of a woman in black silk and raven black hair running in a field of daisies. Looking back at him once in a while with love, joy évident on her face as she drags his reluctant self along.
He felt joy welling in his heart at just the woman's happiness and smile. But something felt off. He couldn't see her face no matter how hard he tried.
One second she was smiling and pulling him along. The next second, she just disappeared like full on vanished. It was like watching a person turning to dust in front of your very eyes.
Roland is confused but stiffens instantly as he felt a sharp gaze drilling into his back, the ice biting fierce gaze directed towards him as he slowly turned to look.
She stood there dressed in an assassin's uniform. He recognized it because his shadow was also an assassin.
But this time, her raven black hair wasn't free in the wind, it was neatly tied up in a sleek ponytail, her parted bangs curtaining her face.
Her gaze was dropped the whole time holding her special knife was an unprecedented certainty.
Roland tries going closer to ask what was wrong also perhaps have a glimpse of her face but before he could get close, she ultimately turns her back on him disappearing into the shadows.
Roland wears a confused gaze as his brows knitted together in reality. He's suddenly jolted awake, sweaty and panting like he'd just been soaked in cold water and told to run the marathon.
He tried to calm his beating heart wondering what the dream meant.
Early the next morning, the kingdoms seer was brought in to interpret his dream. The seer who was a weakly old woman with blind eyes soos her tea calmly staring ahead.
Roland finally breaks the stretching silence,"I had a dream." He says. "About a woman?" she asked taking another sip.
"Yes, who is she?" Roland asks a little bit frantic, desperate. "A traveler." She continues. "A traveler?" Roland asks still not understanding. "Yes and perhaps your future." She says smiling calmly, "She comes bearing a sword and a flower." The old seer continued.
"So she's an enemy?" Roland asks sensing the doubt in his own voice as he gives a puzzled look the king and queen clearly intrigued.
"Hahahaha." The seer laughs. "That my young master depends solely on you. Whatever her purpose here is depends on you, your actions and choices.
"Me?" Roland asks still not getting the point gripping his wheelchair more tightly already white knuckled. "I don't get any of this. You were supposed to provide me with an answer to my dream and not another parable." Roland reasoned his rone measured.
But the old seer had already picked up her bags wobbling out through the door, her mission clearly accomplished.
Meanwhile, the king and queen locked gazes, the same thoughts flowing through their mind,"tightened security on whoever goes in and out."
