Chapter 1
Roland was born as a premature child and as such had to be catered for with extreme carefulness. He was a blessing to the kingdom as his birth brought an end to the never ending war sealing a pact that brought the kingdom peace.
His parents especially his father doted on him and gave him anything he wanted.
He wasn't as healthy as any child his age would be. ut was sock on a regular basis. The ailment of the young prince greatly disturbed the King as he searched the entire kingdom for a remedy to cure him.
All the physicians came and went, seers, prophets name whatever but nothing worked.
While kids his age were building sand castles and playing, he was confined to his sick bed.
As the years passed, his health kept deteriorating day by day. His childhood was lost confined his sick bed. It wasn't until his 21st birthday that he made his first walk. He walked and fell but kept standing up.
His mother, the Queen coming to deliver his slice of the cake walked in on this scene and was marveled. She went to his side hugging him and alerting the whole palace. The king came in, hugging his son and parting him on the back.
He promised to throw a banquet to commemorate his first walk but Roland kicked against it. "I want to find true love father. No one will want me in this state." he said. "Nonsense!" The king said, "Who wouldn't want a prince especially now that you can walk." "You see father, that's what I meant. No one will want me but once they hear I can walk, they'll come, not for love but for the money. Roland said.
"Hmmmmmm, you're right son. But still I will throw a family banquet to celebrate your first step." The king said. "[sigh] Okay father." Roland said laying on the bed with a soft thud.
Roland closed his eye falling into a deep sleep while the king started preparing for the banquet. Night soon fell and the once quiet palace became lively. Family members of the royal palace from far and near came. The banquet started and Roland was wheeled down. The King stood up getting everyone's attention while raising a toast, "To my youngest son on walking for the first time." Everyone stood up smiling ~ fake smiles and genuine ones as they raised their glasses for a toast. Some even crouching down to Roland's wheelchair for a toast .
Laughter and cheers soon swept across the room as everyone was engrossed in a topic of their own. They celebrated his achievement but not the efforts he put in to walk. [sigh].
