She had spent a few more days in the
hotel room and finally felt fed up with it and decided to leave, not right
away, obviously, but eventually.
First, she had to find where else to
stay.
Not wanting, but having no other
choice, she went her apartments way to grab some clothes and documents,
wishing that Ben wouldn't show up.
Walking inside the building, everything seemed alright, she could already feel the new fabric on her skin because at first, due to fear she didn't go there, for all the time since she
signed into the hotel, all she had was her jeans and a hoodie for almost three
weeks in a row.
She had no wish to spend any money on
new clothing when only a step away she could enter her own apartment and pick
up hers, but fear did its own thing and she didn't.
She bought from the reception store
few pairs of basic underwear and a nightgown to sleep with, and fortunately,
the hotel offered such services as washing clothes throughout the night, so she
did not need to buy any more new clothes, just order the service and put ones
she wanted to be washed in a designated bag, leaving it in front of her door
for the maids to pick up until eight in the evening.
She left the hotel and turned to the
direction her apartment was located. With every step her fear grew, but she had
no choice, she must begin to live again, she has to move on, or else she'll end
up going back home even more broken than she left.
She carefully unlocked the door and
entered her place, a stench of something rotten had reached her nostrils.
The further she stepped the more it
stank, until, the living room came into view and what she saw... It was enough
for her to turn around and leave never looking back.
But before she could react…
' I missed you, Lexie..' The same, now disgusting, voice spoke, one that she lived with for months thinking that it was a completely different person.
' How are you here?!' She shouted full of all the emotions possible, from being afraid to shocked and pissed at the same time.
He didn't even turn to her, but a half-full glass of some red liquid in his hand caught her eye.
' And what's that smell??' She began looking around while scrunching her nose.
And then she saw...
It was a dead woman lying under the blanket near his feet by the armchair, realization of the liquids origin came into her mind.
' Oh my god!? What happened here, and
why are the curtains shut?' She exclaimed beginning to panic even more while
stepping to uncover the window.
' Don't you even dare!' He shouted
standing up and quickly appearing in front of her, stopping her hand from
grabbing the curtain.
' Why?! What the !?' She shook when his cold hand grabbed her wrist and looked up at him.
She quickly retracted it and held with her other hand beginning to understand what was going on.
' Are you?! How in the bloody hell I didn't know?!'
All she heard was a burst of disturbing laughter that made all her body shiver.
' Oh sweet Lexie, I'm surprised you did not know all this time...' He began.
'All that you thought happened between us, was a lie.' Then he said.
' B.. H.. What?' She mumbled.
' Oh... I see, you are still confused...' He scratched his chin contemplating whether to spill it all or not.
' I'm not confused about who you are, you bloodsucker, I'm confused about... How the heck you were out in the sunlight for every shift we worked together, and how you made me feel you as a
human being??!' She demanded looking him straight in the eyes that were still
shining red from the blood he drained and killed a woman for.
'You.' He shortly said.
' What are you talking about?' She asked yet again bewildered.
He let out a breath.
' Sit.. Or no, if you don't want.' He offered her.
Lexie wanted to tell him to go where the sun doesn't shine but she still sat down, confused more than ever.
' Good girl, now, where was I.'
He scratched his head before continuing.
' What do you know about vampires?'
' Bloodsuckers.' she spat out angrily.
' Nothing new, sweet Lexie, nothing… You are something very special, you know?' She just raised an eyebrow in question.
' You see, we drink blood to survive, but, if a certain amount will be consumed, a vampire will be able to walk in the sun for a certain amount of time, even be accounted as a human again, if it
make sense...' He began.
' And, you see, I would drain a whole body and get, hmm, around six hours in the sun, it is until I met you, my sweet sweet...' He licked his lips sending another wave of shivers down her body.
'You drank my blood?! My pack will kill you.' Lexie spat out.
' Nah... Don't think so, no one noticed it until now, why would they ever?'
Her patience ran out.
' What did you do to me??'
' Just listen, okay?'
' So, it all happened when we met, I
had to drain three humans a night so I could safely be out from sunlight till
sundown.'
' But you..' he wiped the last drops of blood left on his lips and licked them.
' When I met you for the first time, I was intrigued, I couldn't grasp your origin... You were like a human, but something else, so I decided to try some of your blood.' He simply said.
' W... When?? How did I not...'
' Shh, pack of juice, just listen.'
' So.. The first shift we had together
was the begining of us, of course, at first I thought that I would just drain
you and move on, but...'
' The next day you came for your shift, I couldn't understand how you survived, but you did, and trust me, I drained every last drop of yours, I even heard your heart stop.'
' You... Killed me ?!'
' Yes, I did, I thought you somehow got my blood and were transitioning, but... Yet again, no, so... anyway.'
' Guess how long was I able to go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning like a human?' He asked out of nowhere.
She had no idea, all she was thinking about was that she needed to wake up, that this wasn't real and only a nightmare that was already lasting way too long than it should.
' Two months, Lexie... Until the evening I invited you out for the first time, I tried charming you, and it worked, until a few weeks ago ,you just... Started waking up. I guess... I
should've known it won't last forever.'
'You started to be less and less
affective to my charms until I had to drug you to sleep so I could drain blood
from you.'
' I.. I have to go .' She began and
stood up not feeling her surroundings, nor herself from the dizziness that began attacking
her body out of nowhere.
' Why? Weren't you happy with me? Don't you want to make me happy while I make you?' He started speaking as sweet as the sweetest candy she ever had.
But it didn't work, she had no effect, all she felt was confusion, panic and a wish to disappear.
' Stop it, Ben… The vampire, I have nothing against your race, but what you did to me. It wont be passed unheard, now, I will leave, and you are going to do nothing about it.' She told with as
much hate that began growing in her out of nowhere as possible.
' Why should I? I could keep you captive for the rest of your life and drink your blood any time I want, heck, even begin selling it... I could make a good business out of you.' He began
contemplating possible scenarios while stepping in between the door and Lexie.
' Leave.' Lexie said shaking.
' Now, I don't want you in my property anymore.' She wasn't sure if the rejecting entrance was the real thing about vampires or not, but tried anyway.
And she was indeed correct, she could uninvite him as a vampire, but only if the place belonged to her...
' You are no longer a guest, Ben.' With those words, the vampire was escorted out by invisible power.
' Oh my sweet...' he began yet again
with that prickly sounding ''sweet '' which made Lexie's stomach contents flip.
' Why aren't you reacting in any way to me not being affected by you anymore?' She asked dumbfounded.
' Oh... It's because... You'll come back to me, you even thought I was possibly your mate, you know .' He gave her a wink.
' No, seriously, what is wrong with you, I'm conscious now, you may disappear and look for other victims to kill.'
He smiled widely and stepped back inside the apartment.
' WHat the?!'
' Oh, my bad, I have to explain myself.' He said trying to look guilty.
' So, while my charms still worked on you, I guess I... made you sign the property on my name, and yes, I was full of your blood so I counted as a human, Ben Lars, to be precise.'
' But my real name isn't that, it's Benjamin Larson Clowd, I'm five thousand years old and thought that I knew every possible way of letting myself walk with humans in daylight, until I met
you, it is..'
' So... Who are you, Lexie Knight? ' He asked stepping closer to her while she backed away.
' Uhm... No one, I'm no one, just a human.' She began.
' Ct.. ct.. ct.. liar liar pants on fire..' He began singing quietly.
' I'm no one .' She said backing away once again.
' Lexie... Why are you lying, are there others like you? There must be, you must have a family... Where are they? The rest of your kind? I want to feed.'
' Cmon, speak.' He stepped once again and she was about to do the same when her back was hit by a wall.
' N.. No one .' She repeated yet again.
One of the vampire's hands punched the wall by her left ear while he lifted her chin with his other one.
' Please? Just one word, where is your family located, I want more of this sweet sweet..' He braised her collarbone with his nose and his fangs showed.
Lexie... She disappeared entirely, leaving her body for him to devour, she had no more will to fight, nor she could run as it was already getting dark and she would have no place to hide.
' Speak or I will bite..' Was the last words she heard before her mind drifted away...
An extra presence entered the apartment but the vampire paid no attention to it, and began lowering his fangs to Lexies neck when suddenly, a ferocious hiss appeared out of nowhere.
Lexie opened her eyes to a view she could never expected, just when the newcomer was about to scratch Bens face he quickly hid his fangs and disappeared out of the apartment.
' What the...' She couldn't finish when fainted and fell to the floor.
______________
*Lexies dream*
How...
How could I be so stupid and not understand when he came into my life that he's no good...
How...
What now? Am I going to die? And who was... Hissing? It sounded like a cat, but way bigger.
I fell into some space with no shapes...
Swings appeared out of nowhere and I walked to sit on them.
' Lexie... You must come back..' Someone spoke.
' Who is it??' I asked the darkness in front.
' I saved you, it is time to come back... He's gone and I need you, Lexie...' Someone spoke again.
' What's the point?' I asked no one precisely.
It's true, I feel no need to live anymore, I was born a human amongst werewolves, at least everyone said that, but once I came to live with them, I understood that I'm not one of them
either...
' I'm unfit neither in the supernatural world nor amongst humans, I give up...' Tears began escaping my eyes nonstop while memories with Benjamin came back, good ones, I thought.
But apparently, all of it was fake...
It was all a charm, while in reality, he was gulping down my blood so he could hunt in sunlight as well.
I feel so disgusting and used.
' Whoever you are, please let the darkness take me.' I begged while more and more of the fake memories came into view.
' I can't, not yet, we are needed for each other to move on, I promise I won't let anyone hurt you.' The intruder of my dream begged yet again.
' Please let me go...'
' We shall speak later, now, come back..' He answered without leaving any space for further argument.
Everything disappeared before I could answer or even understand what was about to happen...
