*** ' Lexie, sweetheart... We tried our best to make you feel like one of us, you are one of us...' ' No, I'm not mom, I apreciate all the trying, but it is not necessary anymore as I have to find a way of my own.' She tried to console her tearing-up mother. ' But..' ' No buts, mom, I have to do this, I need to.' ' Alright alright... But you must understand that it is so hard to let you go, my girl... Promise to call if anything happens.' She demanded then. ' I will mom, dad, thank you for understanding.' ' No need Lexie... Just, come back as soon as you'll find whatever it is you want to find.' He told with a nod. ' I will.' With those words, she took her bag that was lying on the ground by her feet, turned around and began walking to the taxi cab. *** * Few months later* ' Here you go, enjoy your break .' A guy said giving a cup of coffee to her. ' Thanks Ben. By the way, why are you so early? You still have ten more minutes if I'm not mistaken?' He laughed uncomfortably. ' Uhm, I know, I thought, maybe you could come to sit with me for a moment?' Then asked. ' I.. I guess..' She agreed and they went to the back of the store, since there were no customers inside, no one stopped them. He lit a cigarette and turned to her. ' I'm sorry Lex, I'm just... so nervous..' He explained. ' Nervous? Why?' She asked confused. ' Come, sit.' He invited her to go with him on the only bench there. ' Ben, speak .' she demanded once seated. ' Alright, so, we have been working together for more than a month now, and... I like you Lexie .' She waited for him to continue, still unsure. ' You are a good friend as well, Ben.' then she added when there were no words leaving his mouth. ' No... Lexie, I like you more than a friend, and I would like to take you on a date sometime soon, if it's alright of course.' He then spilled it out. Lexie froze for a moment, not sure of how to react. Many questions started bubbling in her mind as she was unsure if it was because he might be her mate, or just because... He likes her. ' Lexie?' ' Are you alright??' She still had no answer. ' O.. Okay, maybe next time...' He told disappointed and turned around to go back inside, but, the moment he reached the handle she spoke. ' When?' She asked. He heard her, but didn't answer, nor released the handle he already had a grip on. ' Ben... I'm sorry, alright, it's just that. I wasn't expecting it and it was kind of a surprise.' She began. ' Why ? Why would you be so surprised by me being interested in you? Am I not good enough?' He questioned a bit hurt. ' Ben, you are, just that... You know... Nevermind, so, when are we going out?' She quickly collected herself. She wanted to tell him that she had never been out with a guy, nor kissed one, but something deep inside of her made her stop just at the right moment. He let out a breath, then turned around and lit yet another cigarette. ' Tomorrow?' Then asked. She thought for a moment and decided that there's no way out of this anyway. ' Okay, can you pick me up at... six?' She offered. ' Alright... Well then, enjoy your break.' He said and went inside without even finishing his cigarette. Lexie sat there for a few more minutes, thinking whether it was a good or bad thing she agreed. Oh, how she wishes she would know if she's able to feel her true mate's presence. Unfortunately, there isn't anyone who could tell her because of her origin... She'll just have to dive in and find out along the way... *** Lexie Knight is the daughter of a wolf that became human, that was mated to an alpha, and became Luna of Nox acelli pack. Because of her mother becoming a human soul with the gift of keeping her wolf form, she inherited the gift her mother received in order to survive, she was born a human, and no wolf appeared to her as usually should have from the young age. Many witches were questioned to determine whether she'll ever gain a wolf, but none of them could answer precisely. Only guesses were heard out of many, and most likely ones were that she would stay a human, which was eventually debunked due to her growing strength and speed unusual to humans and more familiar to werewolves. But still, none of the witches, nor elders could answer whether she would ever gain a wolf or even feel the presence of her mate. That's why, at eighteen, she decided to leave her pack and try to find a path of her own, thinking that if it’s meant, she'll come back to the pack, and if it's not, she won't. *** *Few months later* She is standing in front of a mirror, being unable to believe that a relationship that began so perfectly could end so... bad. She cried all night not having a clue of what had she done wrong. She even reconsidered the idea of why she left her pack, what's the difference between being hated by wolves or humans, because it pained her the same way anyway... The more she tried to think of what went wrong, the less she understood, it seemed as if the last few months of the relationship she had was wiped away and meant nothing, at least for him, he was so nice and loving all the time. Until a new employee was hired, and he worked three shifts with them. At first, Lexie had no idea of whats to come, so she was the usual friendly self as always, unfortunately, Ben took it the wrong way. He began acting more and more jealous and negative towards the new guy at work. All Lexie would do, is say 'Hi' to him, or he to her, and she would have to listen to Ben babbling about how he hates other guys rather than him speaking to her for all the breaks they started going to at the same because of being together. She thought jealousy was a normal thing and tried to tolerate it as much as possible, it is until he began using physical strength against her. Fortunately, the second time was the final one as she had no idea how, but after the first time she got slapped across the face, he found a way back to her heart, but second... The last straw broke after weeks of hatred and jealousy she received for one innocent ´Hi´, she couldn´t just begin ignoring a person completely, It wasn´t her nature. She has this, bubbly and outgoing personality that everyone around eventually favors her and wants to be her friend for. A naked soul as some would say, she thinks of others more than herself and now is broken... With every slap she received that second time, her heart broke bit by bit, until it shattered to pieces, and she felt no more good towards Ben. Standing in front of that mirror, she cursed every step she made outside the pack grounds as it gave no positive outcome, cursed herself for ever even thinking about leaving her family and not being there because her baby brother might be born any day now. Eyes... Face color is fairly correct, bare arms, she couldn't stop herself from holding one that was grabbed by him multiple times that same evening, there will be a bruise for sure as he did not feel sorry while harshly squeezing her wrist and repeating that she's his and no one else can even look at her. ------------------------- *Lexie's memory* I remember it as yesterday... His name was Ben and he was my first-ever boyfriend... Kind of... It started when I left my pack and arrived at Cliffwood... It's a town near the border of Canada. I was so naive and thought that having a significant other wouldn't be so bad as I'm still unsure of how life goes amongst humans, but I was wrong... Oh how wrong I was.. I met him at a local shop I was hired, he was restocking shelves when in need and as well keeping the whole store in order while I was working by the only cash machine. Because unfortunately, the previous girl was just waiting for someone to take over her place so she could leave, it's a small town shop that sells organic food, the only store like that to be precise, anyway... Where was I... Oh yeah. Ben... At first, he was working only one shift per week with me, but as time passed he changed his days so he would be with me on all of the days I work... We ended up working together four days a week, and once he found out from another girl who was working in a cleaning team that I was single... He started acting... Like... He would bring a cup of coffee, or tea, once back from his break wishing me a good one. I think it was a month or so after I began working at'' Organic enough?'' when he asked me out... And I, as I said, seeing nothing bad in it, agreed. And that's how our relationship began. A few weeks later we started sleeping at each others place once in a while, a month or two later I moved into his place, even though mine was bigger, he wouldn't even consider it... I was stupid and just let it slip, thinking that maybe it's not usual for human couples to move into a woman's place instead of guys if it meant more convenience... I was partly correct, but wrong yet again... Don't get me wrong... He was a true gentleman, but only for a few more months, because, then it happened. A new employee was hired and just so happens he worked the same shifts as we did, he was so friendly, and Ben... He took it as an attraction to me and our relationship began going down as fast as they began. ** We would sit on a couch after work, watch a movie or whatever and speak... One word he wouldn't like and he would become so angry, and jealous out of nowhere, start saying all the worst things I could hear, accusing me of slutting around with some i***t at work, that I don't respect our relationship etc... I swear, I wanted to end it so many times, but he would find a way back. I know, I know... I'm still counted as a supernatural creature and shouldn't be charmed by a human so easily... But... Relationship. Oh.. and.. did I say that I'm not even sure if I would feel someone as my destined other half? Yeah.. that's correct... I don't know... So the moment I met Ben and he was so nice, I thought, maybe it's him? It wasn't until he began acting too possessive over me, it just... didn't feel natural. That was it to me, although he tried, as any other time to apologize, it didn't work anymore as I was done with it, done with him for good. I took my stuff that same evening and left... Rented out a hotel room as he knew where my apartment was located and I had no wish to deal with him yet again. Left work on short notice the next day, the owner of course wasn't happy about that, but he couldn't do anything, I lost money leaving work so quickly as well, but that's not my concern... I will always have enough, because my parents support me, even though I did not ask for it. ____________________ She spent two weeks in that hotel room, not stepping out even once, only communicating with those who worked in food service. Until eventually she decided to go for a walk. Trying to be as careful as she could, she chose to go at the time he would work, it is, hoping that she wouldn't meet him, even though she chose a hotel on the other side of town, she still had a chance to meet him, because of how small the town was. Lexie roamed the streets of the town, longing for the days she felt happy walking there, she hoped that all of it was just a nightmare that she's stuck in and she could wake up in Ben's embrace at any moment, but she didn't. It was real, all of it, the jealousy and all those arguments, the beating, the bruises she had been gifted after... She unconsciously walked to her old workplace and only minutes before entering she stopped, and then. When she was about to turn around and walk in a different direction wishing no one had noticed her, she saw him. The man she was once in love with, was cleaning the floor after a client's child dropped a jar of homemade jam. He was hiding behind his mother while trying to control his tears, being afraid that his mom would be angry at him, but she wasn't. Lexie saw nothing but love and understanding in womans eyes while she patted her child's head trying to console him. Ben did so as well, after finishing, he kneeled in front of a boy, asking his mother with his eyes if he can speak to him, she just nodded agreeingly to him and he gently took the boy's hand, pulling him out from his hideaway. Lexie was lucky, or not so, because due to her enhanced senses, she could hear everything inside. ' What's your name?' He asked the boy that quickly raised his little head to mom for approval to talk with a stranger, to which she just nodded agreeing yet again. ' Michael..' The boy then said. ' It's nice to meet you Micheal, my name is Ben and I work here.' ' Are you going to call the police on me? Please don't, it was an accident..' Boy almost cried scrunching his mother's skirt. Ben laughed lightly. ' Micheal, I won't, please calm down, look, what if I give you another jar of jam?' ' But... What if I drop that one as well?" Ben didn't say anything, instead stood up and went to the section of jams, took the same one, and walked back to the boy, kneeled in front of him again and gave it. ' You won't, I trust you..' Then he said patting the boy's back. ' T.. Thank you..' ' Thank you... Ben , he took it too serious...' The mother apologized. ' No need...' He shortly said and walked into the back of the store to put back cleaning supplies. That was the moment she understood that she was still in luck and no one had noticed her yet from the workplace. Turned around, and was about to go when... Someone spoke. ' Hey, where have you been ?' Familiar voice spoke. ' Oh... Hey..' She answered once turned around to see the same man that ruined her relationship, or maybe not, she wasn't sure of the reason Ben started acting crazy. ' Oh my.. What happened to you Lexie, are you alright??!' The shock was written all over her old coworker's face once noticed the bruise on her left cheek. ' I can call Ben if you want?' Then he offered. ' Oh, no... Please, I'm fine, and uhm, sorry, but I don't know your name.' He laughed. ' We were working together for almost two months and you don't know my name? You are funny..' He said chuckling. Lexie began walking without another word, she had no wish to deal with another man now, and maybe even never again. ' Oi ! I didn't mean to sound rude!' He shouted to her. ' Got it, bye stranger, hope to see you never.' She responded and quickened her steps. The ''stranger'' said nothing else and let her go, Lexie was on her way back to the hotel when thoughts about this guy she just met, came to mind again. ' Why can't I remember his name?' She quietly asked herself. 'Or even appearance?' 'No... for real... no freaking way.. something is wrong with me...' She argued with herself again. She did not remember how exactly he looked, for some strange reason, but what she did remember was how she felt. She felt like... he wasn't exactly her type, but handsome in his way. She fell deep in her thoughts trying to find out why a stranger she worked with for almost two months, was so... forgettable. She didn't mind the fact that she didn't know his name, but appearance? That's a bit much, taking into account that she literally saw him and spoke to him like thirty minutes ago. ***
