Chapter 5

"What the hell happened to you!? We were worried sick of you. When did you woke up?" Truett wanted to laugh on Jakobe's shocked and at the same time, worried face.

Jakobe didn't know what to feel right now. He should be happy because Truett was already awake but he is also worried that there's still a problem regarding Truett's condition.

"I only regained my consciousness a while ago. Beta Aera told me that you're already on your way here so I told him not to say anything to you. I wanted to surprise you." Truett laughed when he saw how Jakobe is controlling himself not to punch him.

"What happened? You were a great fighter. Why did you let them hurt you? They almost killed you." Truett sighed. Jakobe is right. He's really a great fighter but, he himself can't explain what happened to him that day. He wanted to fight back but there's something that's stopping him. He wanted to move but his body was not cooperating with him. He felt that someone was maneuvering his body. He was like a puppet under a spell.

"I don't know. Maybe, I have bad luck for that day." Truett said.

"How about the trackers? Did they find anything?" Jakobe asked and Truett shook his head for a NO answer.

"They planned everything well. Their scents were not detected. One of my top tracker said that they must be non-shifters or they have something covering their scents." Truett said.

"How could it be possible? How can they cover their scents?" Jakobe said.

Their conversation was cut off by a mind link coming from Beta Aera.

"Alpha, Alpha Zyair is already here." Jakobe furrowed his forehead and looked at Truett.

"His trackers found something and I guess they are not just only after us. They were also in the human world." Jakobe creased his forehead hearing what Truett have said.

"Where are you? It's late." Ava's mother already called her because it was nearing eleven in the evening.

Zoophilist opens at eight in the morning and closes at five in the afternoon unless, there are still patients or scheduled operations, they close until everything's finish.

"I'm on my way, Mom. I had my last patient late so I closed the clinic around eight. I went from a grocery because I bought treats for Night because you knew that every time I'm going out without her, I should bring something for her." Ava said.

"Yeah, she's already at the door waiting for you." Rosalia said looking at Night who was lying in front of the door.

"I'll be there after thirty." Ava said and ended the call.

Few minutes after, Ava screamed because she accidentally hit something.

"What the...?" Ava said before opening the door to look what it was.

"Oh my gosh!" Ava said seeing a wolf lying on the ground. She hurriedly approached the wolf and checked for it's pulse. She puffed air of relief because it has a normal pulse but she creased her forehead.

"Your pulse must be weak because you had an accident. Why in the world you have a normal pulse?" Ava asked herself and to her horror, she saw how the wolf stood up and more wolves appeared on her view.

"Alpha Zyair." Truett said welcoming the Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack.

"How are you feeling?" Zyair asked.

"A bit better." Truett answered.

"Alpha Jakobe, how are you're parents?" Zyair turned his head to look at Jakobe.

"They're doing just fine." Zyair nodded on Jakobe's answer.

"Alpha, we heard a scream not far from the border. We're on our way to check it out." That was Malcolm using the mind link.

"On my way." Jakobe said looking at Truett and Zyair.

"Go!" Truett said. Because he was injured, he can't do nothing at this time so he let Jakobe do his Alpha duties on his territory.

"Alpha Zyair, please do accompany Alpha Truett. I will just check on the problem and will come back once it's done." Jakobe said and Zyair nodded.

"Night, calm down, what is happening to you?" Kenji said while trying to put Night's leash on her head. Jacques was helping him but they can't control the wolf. She was acting weird since the call between Rosalia and Ava ended. She wanted to come out from the house but Kenji already locked the door.

"What if something happened to Ava and Night can feel it?" Rosalia said with a worried voice.

"Don't say that." Kenji said but he himself was also worried about their daughter.

It is unusual for Ava to go home this late. And it is also unusual for Night to behave like this.

Ava tried to run as fast as she could. She was really scared. Her body was numb and cold but she had to move. She had Night but the wolves that are running after her were very scary. Their eyes were red and they were salivating as if they were hungry all throughout their lives.

"Ouch!" Ava felt pain on her feet when she accidentally trip on the roots of a tree. Because it was really dark, she never notice that she was actually running through a forest. All she was thinking was to run away from the wolves.

Ava can hear the nearing thumping paws of the wolves. She tried to move but to her dismay, the pain run throughout her body. She silently prayed.

"Dad, Mom, Denisse, Night..." Ava's eyes became teary thinking of her love ones. She screamed again because the scary wolves are already in front of her. They were slowly walking towards her as if they were thinking where to bite first. Ava looked around to see if there's a rock she can throw or a stick she can whip to the wolves but because it was dark, she can't see nothing.

"Please someone, help me..." Ava said hoping that someone will appear in front of her to save her.
