Chapter 8 Do you understand

“You wanted to see me sir?”

“Yes Tank, I have an assignment for you, an escort mission if you want to be technical.”

“Escort mission? Sir with all due respect don’t you think maybe someone else like Garcia can handle that mission?”

He smirked at me which was an usual thing for the general to do, especially at me.

“I know you think most escort missions don’t have very much action in them, but I can assure you this one is a definite game changer, not just for the base but the world possibly. Then there’s the fact that Samantha trusts you, and I do too, and that’s why i'm giving it to you, of course you can decline if you want.

“What do you mean by a game changer sir?”

He explained to me that he had a brother that left the base some time ago, and joined the rebels. He believed that the base is a sham and the council members were in fact deceivers. This was all interesting considering the fact that my own beliefs were somewhat aligned with his brothers. I never told Samantha how i felt about it though because i didn’t know how she felt about something better than living in a base for the rest of our lives, and i didn’t want to upset her. As long as she was happy then I'd do anything for her, but if I have an opportunity for us to live a better happier life then I would take it and deal with the consequences later.

“Your mission is simple. You will tag along with Hunter Riles-”

“Riles? That i***t can’t complete a regular mission let alone an escort mission. Something always manages to go wrong with him.

“Exactly why you and someone you trust is going in place in one of his goons, i don’t fully understand why his missions always seem to fail, but my theory is sabotage under staulch’s authority.”

It made sense a little but Riles is an asshole who thinks he’s doing something, when all he does is take up space.

“The mission is to escort councilman Gordo from base Avalon to here with no harm to him. I don’t know for what but it must be important at least that’s how staulch made it seem. Your mission is Black Ops, find out his reasoning for coming on such a short notice i can only hope it’s something good, but since staulch is sending Riles of all people on such an important mission it must be for something bad. Do you understand Tank?”

“Yes sir, fully.”

“Good, the mission wasn’t cleared for the use of weaponry so i’m not sure what you should expect, but you keep an eye out and try not to get yourself killed. Oh And do me a favor, DO NOT tell Samantha. She will be going on her own mission as well, I'm just not sure of the full extent of the mission but this is something only she can do.”

“Understood sir.”

“Good, find your man report to Gate C early morning in five days. You’re dismissed Captain.”
